Check out the all-new Mitsubishi Xpander Cross

KUALA LUMPUR: Here it is, the new Mitsubishi Xpander Cross. A new variant of Xpander, with versatility and a sense of adventure. This car is important for the Japanese brand and was unveiled by Mitsubishi Motors CEO, Takao Kato himself. Though it is not a surprise, Kato is one of the men responsible for the birth of the Xpander family.

It bears the same 4 cylinder 1.5-litre power train under the hood and is available in either a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual gearbox. Though Mitsubishi state that the engine has some minor improvement to increase fuel efficiency and reducing harshness.

With slightly increased ground clearance (now 225 mm from 205 mm) and over fenders that says, "I'm different from your regular Xpander!" Not just the wheel arc, though. Changes can be seen clearly at the front with a totally new grill, LED headlights, and bumper. In short, this car is trying to be different from its regular siblings. According to Mitsubishi, Xpander Cross also have different suspension geometry, to keep up with increased ground clearance. The overall dimension, as seen on the specs sheet, is increased by 25 mm.

On the side, new wheels are present with a bigger size. One inch bigger to be precise. It successfully creates that strong impression, though we don't like the offset on the rear, which makes the Xpander Cross looks skinny.

Inside, two-tone fabric seats create a different ambience. It looks more expensive amid the material is not special, and yes, it is a seven-seater MPV. Standard equipment includes multimedia system with 7-inch touch screen, cruise control, and double blower air conditioning to enhance your traveling comfort.

In Indonesia, Mitsubishi Xpander Cross will be available with three variants - MT, AT, and one premium package as the most expensive. Price starts at Rp 267,700,000 (Approx. RM 78,791) for the lowest MT. Xpander Cross is on sale at the dealership as of now in Indonesia, and will be exported to ASEAN market soon.

"Xpander is developed by listening to what the Indonesian want. We are confident this model will follow the previous success," Kato says in his opening speech.
