Ford to introduce a compact pickup by 2020
KUALA LUMPUR: Ford announced its plan to build a compact pickup, and the truck would take the slot under its best-selling Ranger line-up. Along with that, the company is also working on battery-electric versions of its F-series line of trucks.
During an auto conference in Detroit, Ford’s global president for marketing and sales, Jim Farley said, the brand is investing in the more affordable design with a new nameplate of its truck business. However, he did not mention the time frame for the new products.
According to a report, Ford has planned to introduce a compact pickup by 2022 in the US. The report also indicated that the truck would be based on the next-gen Focus platform. And this time in Detroit, Farley did not deny the statement by saying that the company is expanding its North America lineup and all the new vehicles would feature fresh designs.
Besides, speaking about the new versions of the F-series truck, Farley said the company plans for both battery-electric and hybrid version for the series. But it is unclear whether an electric F-150, Super Duty or both versions of this truck would be launched.
Reportedly, Ford has dedicated its maximum capital allocation to trucks business and has invested $11 billion in the electrification of the vehicles. It also has plans to offer 40 electrified vehicles by 2022 across all the markets.
