GAC Emkoo launching soon in Malaysia; CKD operations begin
KUALA LUMPUR: The official distributor of GAC vehicles in Malaysia, WTC Automotif Sdn Bhd (WTCA), has commenced mass production for the GAC Emkoo. This is the brand’s second locally assembled model after the Emzoom GS3.

The GAC Emkoo will rival the likes of the Proton X70, Honda CR-V, and Mazda CX-5.The GAC Emkoo made its first official appearance in Malaysia in January 2024 and was initially expected to launch in the second half of the year. However, that did not materialize. Now, with local assembly underway, the model is set for launch in the third quarter of 2025.
The Start of Production ceremony was officiated by Mr. Tan Keng Meng, CEO of WTCA, and Mr. Ye Shao Jian, Vice GM of GAC International along with key representatives from both organisations.
Upon achieving this milestone, Mr. Tan said, “We are proud to advance to the next chapter of our CKD journey with the launch of Emkoo mass production. This milestone highlights our capability to meet global quality standards while assembling vehicles locally. The Emkoo reflects our joint commitment to delivering technologically advanced and design-forward vehicles to Malaysian consumers in a timely and efficient manner.”
Adding to that, Mr. Ye Shao Jian said, “The EMKOO’s successful SOP reflects the strong synergy between WTCA and GAC. We believe this model will redefine expectations in the mid-size SUV market in Malaysia, with its futuristic styling, advanced safety technologies, and performance-driven engineering. It further demonstrates GAC’s long-term commitment to localisation and sustainable growth in Malaysia.”

GAC Emkoo: Key highlights
- The GAC Emkoo is a C-segment SUV based on the brand’s Global Platform Modular Architecture (GPMA).
- It measures 4,680 mm in length, 1,901 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height, and spans a wheelbase of around 2,750 mm.
- The Emkoo boasts an ultramodern design with an illuminated grille featuring twelve bars on each side, matrix LED headlights, titanium-tungsten alloy stripes, a "mecha-style" spoiler and “Lightsaber-inspired” LED tail lights.
- Globally, the SUV is offered in three powertrain options - 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol producing 177 PS of maximum power and 270 Nm of torque; 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol good for making 252 PS and 400 Nm; a hybrid unit pairing a 138 PS/180 Nm 2.0-litre engine and a 182 PS/300 Nm electric motor
- Inside, we may expect a futuristic vibe with modern design elements and high-tech features. The equipment pack may include - a 10.25-inch instrument display and a 14.6-inch touchscreen, head-up display, Apple CarPlay, 12-speaker Yamaha sound system, Panoramic sunroof and automatic climate control.
- The SUV is also likely to feature an ADAS pack, including adaptive cruise control with integrated cruise assist, autonomous emergency braking, traffic jam assist, forward collision warning, traffic sign recognition, lane keep assist, and other advanced driver assistance systems.
