Get ready for an all-new Range Rover based Defender SUV

KUALA LUMPUR: We hear that Land Rover is busy working on an all-new car for its Defender lineup. Isn't it exciting?

So, besides the soon to arrive Land Rover Defender 130, the British automakers burning mid-night lamps to soon introduce an even more lux model which in turn will be the Defender's range flagship product.

Wanna know more? Well, as per trusted media sources the upcoming, premium Defender lineup model will be based on the Range Rover platform. It will be underpinned by the MLA platform. It is the same that will feature on the next-gen Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models.

The said platform comes with its share of advantages, i.e., it will enable the Defender family to grow and provide powertrain flexibility (PHEV, ICE, or BEV). The sharing of platforms is good for the company too, as it will not only reduce development costs. but even allow the brand to aim for higher profits.

Also, it is said that the new Defender flagship model will be a combo of off-roading capabilities and Range Rover model premium-ness.

The upcoming Defender range will comprise several engine options - from 3.0-litre 6-cyl petrol to diesel ones to V8 for higher-spec performance models. The list also comprises a mild-hybrid and PHEV variant.

Furthermore, the application of the Range Rover platform could lead to the development of an all-electric Defender.

When will it arrive? Well, the MLA-platform based Defender models are expected to arrive in late 2024 or early 2025. And will be sold alongside SUV’s other trims, the 90, 110, and 130.
