GWM Malaysia launches TANK 300 HEV: 346 PS, RM 259,800, and RM 9,800 more than the ICE

KUALA LUMPUR: GWM Malaysia has officially launched the TANK 300 HEV, a hybrid variant of its body-on-frame off-road SUV that first arrived in Malaysia back in 2024.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is the price of the GWM TANK 300 HEV in Malaysia?

The GWM TANK 300 HEV is priced at RM 259,800 on-the-road, excluding insurance. That is RM 9,800 more than the standard ICE variant at RM 250,000. Existing GWM owners are also eligible for an additional RM 3,000 loyalty rebate.
  • What is the power output of the GWM TANK 300 HEV?

The TANK 300 HEV produces a combined system output of 346 PS and 648 Nm. The 2.0-litre turbocharged engine contributes 245 PS and 380 Nm, with the electric motor adding another 106 PS and 268 Nm on top.
  • How does the TANK 300 HEV differ from the standard ICE version?

The main differences include the hybrid powertrain, a nine-speed hybrid automatic replacing the ICE's eight-speed ZF unit, full-time on-demand 4WD instead of part-time, 17-inch black alloys with all-terrain tyres instead of 18-inch chrome alloys, and exclusive features like remote app connectivity and Auto Parking Assist. The HEV also loses two terrain modes compared to the ICE, going from nine down to seven.
  • Priced at RM 259,800 on-the-road (excluding insurance), the new variant keeps the same rugged bones as the existing ICE model but adds a petrol-electric powertrain into the mix.

Compared to the standard TANK 300 ICE, the HEV brings some meaningful changes beyond just the powertrain. The most obvious is the jump in output, from 220 PS and 380 Nm on the ICE to a combined 346 PS and 648 Nm on the HEV, with the nine-speed hybrid automatic replacing the ICE's eight-speed ZF unit.

The 4WD system also shifts from part-time to full-time on-demand, though interestingly the HEV actually loses two terrain modes in the process, dropping from nine to seven.

Wheel size goes down too, from 18-inch two-tone chrome alloys on the ICE to 17-inch black alloys, though these come wrapped in all-terrain tyres which arguably makes more practical sense for actual off-road use.

On the technology side, the HEV adds remote app connectivity and Auto Parking Assist, neither of which are available on the ICE.

The TANK 300 HEV runs a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with an electric motor. The combustion engine puts out 245 PS and 380 Nm on its own, while the electric motor contributes another 106 PS and 268 Nm.

Combined system output comes to 346 PS and 648 Nm, which is a meaningful step up from the ICE version. The hybrid setup is designed to smooth out low-speed driving and reduce fuel consumption on longer runs, rather than turn this into a performance machine.

The TANK 300 HEV sits on the same body-on-frame ladder chassis as before. GWM says high-strength steel makes up 99% of the frame, with torsional rigidity rated at 284.5 kN·m/rad.

Off-road hardware includes a full-time on-demand 4WD system, a 4L low range, terrain modes covering snow, mud, sand and more, Tank Turn Assist (which locks the inner rear wheel to tighten turning radius), and Crawl Control for slow-speed technical terrain.

"The introduction of the GWM TANK 300 HEV reflects our commitment to offering Malaysians greater choice. It combines hybrid efficiency and refined comfort while staying true to TANK's authentic, purpose-built off-road capability," said Roslan Abdullah, Chief Operating Officer of GWM Malaysia.

    Inside and safety kit

The cabin gets Nappa leather seats and a 9-speaker Infinity audio system. On the safety side, the TANK 300 HEV comes with a full Level 2 ADAS suite: Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking with junction assist, Lane Keeping and Centering, Lane Change Assist, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Braking. A 360-degree camera and Hill Descent Control are also included.

A few features are exclusive to the HEV variant, namely remote vehicle monitoring and control via a smartphone app (covering doors, windows, tyres, location, fuel and battery status, plus air-conditioning, seat ventilation, and sunroof controls) and an Auto Parking Assist system.

The TANK 300 has moved over 1,000 units since its Malaysian launch in 2024, and has held the Off-Road SUV Champion title in China from 2021 to 2025.

The ICE variant stays on sale alongside the HEV, with GWM positioning the two as distinct choices rather than one replacing the other.

The ICE version is the more raw, mechanically straightforward option; the HEV is aimed at buyers who want the off-road credentials but spend more time on regular roads.

    Ownership package

The TANK 300 HEV comes in three colours: Crystal Black, Pearl White, and a new Sand Beige that is exclusive to the HEV.

At RM 259,800 on-the-road (excluding insurance), it sits RM 9,800 above the standard ICE variant's RM 250,000 price point.

Considering the additional hardware, longer warranty coverage, and the exclusive features that come with the HEV, that gap is relatively modest.

GWM owners can also claim a loyalty rebate of RM 3,000. The ownership package includes five years of free maintenance (labour and parts), five years of free Level 2 vehicle telematic service, a lifetime warranty on the engine and transmission (for first-hand private owners), an 8-year/180,000 km battery warranty, and a 6-year unlimited mileage warranty covering the vehicle and HEV system.

The TANK 300 HEV is available now at selected GWM dealerships nationwide. More information at www.gwm.com.my.
