Bigger footprint, familiar MPV proportions
The Wey G9 is a large MPV by any measure. It measures 5,050 mm in length, 1,985 mm in width, 1,900 mm in height, and rides on a 3,085 mm wheelbase, putting it slightly ahead of the Alphard and Vellfire in terms of overall footprint and cabin space.
That extra size translates directly into interior room, particularly for second and third row passengers, reinforcing the G9’s positioning as a long-distance, family-focused luxury MPV.
Safety-led body structure and battery protection
GWM places strong emphasis on safety with the Wey G9, which has already achieved a five-star C-NCAP crash test rating. More than 83 percent of the body structure uses high-strength steel, with critical areas such as the A- and B-pillars reinforced using ultra-high-strength steel rated up to 2,000 MPa.
Roof crush resistance is rated at 12 tonnes, while full-length curtain airbags stretch across all three rows and are designed to remain inflated for up to six seconds in the event of a rollover. The chassis structure itself features multiple longitudinal and cross members to help distribute impact forces away from the cabin.
As a plug-in hybrid, battery safety is also a key focus. The high-voltage battery has undergone extensive durability and safety testing, with multi-layer side and underbody protection, as well as sealing designed to withstand water immersion, an important consideration for Malaysian driving conditions.
Beyond the structure itself, the Wey G9 also arrives with a full suite of active safety and driver assistance, including AEB with Intersection function, FCW, Maneuver Emergency Braking, adaptive cruise control with cornering plus Traffic Jam Assist, lane systems that include LDW, LKA, lane centring, Emergency Lane Keeping, plus Lane Change Assistance and Wisdom Dodge, as well as rear cross traffic alert and braking, rear collision warning, blind spot detection, door open warning, traffic sign recognition with speed alarm, a speed assist system, second collision mitigation, hill start assist and hill descent control.
There’s also TPMS, e-call, an EDR accident data recorder, and a full set of sensors that includes front and rear radar arrays, plus millimetre-wave radars, supported by a 360-degree surrounding camera with Transparent Chassis function and fully automated integrated parking. For hardware, braking is ventilated discs front and rear, and the car is also equipped with FRD (Frequency Response Dampers).
Interior
Inside, the Wey G9 leans heavily into comfort and convenience. The cabin is trimmed in premium Nappa leather, with the third row finished in leatherette, and second-row passengers are treated to zero-gravity seats with ventilation, heating, a one-button reset function and 10-point massage.
Up front, the driver gets an 8-way electric seat with 4-way lumbar support, plus memory and welcome functions, along with ventilation and massage, while the front passenger seat is 6-way electric and includes a BOSS switch, memory and ventilation.
The second row goes further with zero gravity seats that add massage and ventilation, along with an electric leg rest, multi-way adjustment, armrests, a seat-integrated control panel, adjustable headrests, tray tables, middle aisle access and ISOFIX. The third row uses tip-up seats with manual adjustment, seatback steel reinforcement and ISOFIX.
A standout feature is the integrated 12.5-litre refrigerator, which supports cooling, heating and fresh-keeping modes, with a claimed operating range from 0 to 50°C, making it genuinely usable for family trips and long-distance travel.
Flexibility is also a focus, with the second and third rows running on a sliding rail system, while luggage space can be expanded from 233 litres up to 1,725 litres when needed.
On the tech front, the dashboard features a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster paired with a large 14.6-inch central infotainment display running Coffee OS 3, and the equipment list includes a head-up display, a 50W wireless charger, and voice command with six-zone recognition.
Ambient lighting is a 64-colour system with a breathing effect, the steering wheel carries audio and drive info controls with a 4-way adjustable column, and the Wey G9 uses an EPB with Auto Vehicle Hold plus a column shifter.
Comfort and day-to-day convenience features are well covered too, with three-zone automatic air-conditioning, auto front defogging, an air quality system with AQS and Plasma plus an N95 filter, and HALOSonic active noise cancellation. Cabin practicality includes plenty of charging points, with USB ports across all three rows and two 12V power outlets, plus a dedicated USB power port for a dashcam.
For the glass and visibility side, the Wey G9 gets an acoustic windshield and acoustic front and second-row door glass, sunshades for second and third row windows, a digital rearview mirror with auto anti-glare, and power windows with anti-pinch on all doors and an auto-close function.
Externally, equipment includes intelligent LED headlamps with auto headlamp and auto high beam, a follow-me-home function, LED DRLs and LED tail lamps with a high-mount brake light, plus a rear LED fog lamp. Mirrors are electrically adjustable and folding with turn signals, and wipers include a front boneless setup with an automatic function, plus a rear hidden wiper.
You also get a front sunroof and a rear panoramic sunroof, an electronic tailgate with sensor, and an anti-theft alarm system, along with full-vehicle keyless entry, smart key and push start, and auto unlock after power-off.
Infotainment is backed by a 21-speaker audio system with adaptive sound compensation, plus Bluetooth hands-free and FM/AM radio, while smartphone connectivity comes via wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with brightness-adjustable displays for both the instrument panel and infotainment.
There’s also a connected mobile app layer that allows monitoring of doors, windows, sunroof, hybrid power status, air-conditioning, mileage, battery and fuel levels, tyre temperature and pressure, charging status, battery pack insulation status, sliding door status, vehicle location and e-fence.
Remote functions include engine start/stop, lock/unlock, locator horn/flash, closing windows, sunroof closing, air-con control, seat ventilation, and front and rear defrosting.
Hi4 plug-in hybrid with AWD as standard
Powering the Wey G9 is GWM’s Hi4 plug-in hybrid system, combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with dual electric motors to deliver standard all-wheel drive.
Total system output stands at 442 PS and 642 Nm, enabling the large MPV to sprint from 0–100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, while top speed is rated at 190 km/h.
Energy comes from a 44.2 kWh battery, which provides up to 170 km of pure electric driving range (NEDC). With the petrol engine and battery working together, the total combined driving range is rated at up to 1,000 km.
Fuel consumption is quoted at 1.2 litres per 100 km (NEDC) under ideal conditions, while consumption at a low battery state of charge is rated at 6.2 litres per 100 km.
Charging support includes DC fast charging from 30 to 80 percent in 26 minutes, or a full AC charge in approximately 6.5 hours.
With local assembly, standard AWD, a large-capacity battery and a feature list that rivals MPVs costing more than its price, the Wey G9 enters the Malaysian market as a serious value-driven alternative in the premium MPV segment.
