Jaecoo J5 teaser out, launching soon in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: With the start of the new year, the Malaysian automotive industry is more ready than ever to welcome new vehicles. Following the announcements from Volvo, Mercedes-Benz, and Proton of their new models, Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia has also released a teaser for its brand-new SUV, the J5.

Omoda | Jaecoo Malaysia previewed the SUV in August, followed by the opening of registrations of interest late last year.

The Jaecoo J5 can be seen as a new gateway model for the brand in Malaysia. It aims to offer a taste of Jaecoo’s “attainable luxury” formula to a wider audience, with an estimated price of around RM 120,000, making it the most accessible SUV in the brand’s local lineup.

Jaecoo J5: Key highlights

• Positioned below the Jaecoo J7, the Jaecoo J5 is a B-segment SUV that measures 4,380 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height, with a 2,620 mm wheelbase.
• Dubbed as the “Everyday Superstar,” the SUV features refined design, advanced technology, and lifestyle-friendly versatility.

• At its heart lies a dynamic 1.5-litre turbocharged intercooled engine that is tuned to deliver a maximum power of 147 PS and a peak torque of 210 Nm. Power is sent to the front wheels via a responsive CVT automatic transmission.
• The ​​suspension setup consists of MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link system at the rear, making it stand out in the segment.
• Inside the upcoming Jaecoo J5, we can find a driver-focused cockpit with an advanced digital instrument panel, a 13.2-inch central infotainment unit, and an 8-speaker sound system.

• As for safety, the SUV gets a comprehensive suite of Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, and Lane Keep Assist.
