Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk sets record for the fastest SUV driven on the ice

KUALA LUMPUR: At 2019 Russia’s Baikal Ice Motor Sports Festival, Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk has become the fastest SUV driven on the ice. The certification is based on the data collected from the test run and is confirmed by RAF (Russian Automobile Federation).

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk has achieved a maximum speed of 280 kmph on the ice according to the GPS trackers. The SUV was able to achieve an average speed of around 257 kmph in one kilometre.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is the quickest mass-produced and most powerful SUV in the world, as per the manufacturer. It gets a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine under the hood that can churn out a maximum power of 707 hp along with a peak torque of 875 Nm. It takes just 3.5 seconds to speed up from 0 to 96 kmph. The SUV has a top speed of 290 kmph, while driving on the road. The engine is paired with a TorqueFlite torque converter eight-speed automatic gearbox. The driveline components are upgraded further so that these can handle the additional torque output.

Furthermore, the engine is equipped with the brand’s own Quadra-Trac on-demand four-wheel drive system. It features a single-speed active transfer case along with an electronic limited-slip rear differential. The presence of the Selec-Track system will let the driver choose between five dynamic modes that include Sport, Auto, Track, Tow, and Snow.

The surface was full of ice, and this resulted in the loss of grip. The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk comes with the Brembo brake system, which is responsible for the stopping duties. The SUV has the largest standard front brakes among the Jeep cars, with two-piece vented rotors of 400 mm having six-piston callipers. At the rear axle, vented rotors of 350 mm having four-piston callipers are present.
