Leapmotor’s 6,000KM ASEAN expedition with REEVS arrive in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Leapmotor, best known for its C10 electric vehicle in Malaysia and the recent announcement of its upcoming CKD assembly plans here, has just wrapped up a major milestone: a 6,000KM road trip from its home base in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, all the way to Johor, Malaysia.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What major milestone did Leapmotor recently achieve in Malaysia?
Leapmotor completed a 6,000KM ASEAN Expedition Drive from Hangzhou, China to Johor, Malaysia, showcasing its new range extender electric vehicles (REEVs) — the C10 REEV, C11 REEV, and C16 REEV — and officially inaugurating its upcoming CKD assembly plans in Kuala Lumpur. What is the driving range and key technical setup of the Leapmotor C10 REEV?
The Leapmotor C10 REEV features a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 28.4kWh battery and a 158kW electric motor, delivering a claimed range of up to 1,150KM based on NEDC standards. The ASEAN Expedition Drive is Leapmotor’s way of putting its latest range extender electric vehicles (REEVs) to the test — and on display.

Leading the expedition were three models — the C10 REEV, the sporty C11 REEV, and the spacious six-seater C16 REEV. After arriving in Malaysia, the convoy continued its journey from Penang down to Johor, making stops in major cities along the way, including Kuala Lumpur for the official inauguration of Leapmotor’s upcoming CKD assembly plans in Malaysia.

The goal? To prove that long-distance travel in an EV — even one assisted by a petrol-powered generator — can be easy, efficient, and hassle-free.
A standout from the lineup is the Leapmotor C10 REEV, which differs from the all-electric C10 EV that’s available locally. Instead of being purely electric, the C10 REEV pairs a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a 28.4kWh battery pack and a 158kW electric motor.

This setup gives it a claimed 1,150KM range based on NEDC standards — plenty for those nervous about running out of juice mid-journey.
As part of the expedition, the REEVs have been making their way around Peninsula Malaysia in a 10-day roadshow from April 14 to 23, stopping by Leapmotor’s authorised showrooms across the country.
Fans and curious customers can catch the convoy or follow the Global Expedition Drive team's updates through Leapmotor’s social media channels.

With this expedition, Leapmotor has not only showcased the capabilities of its latest models but also made it clear what kind of vehicles it plans to bring into the local market — and judging by what we’ve seen so far, the brand looks to have a bright future ahead in Malaysia.
In China, the Leapmotor C10 REEV starts from ¥135,800, which works out to roughly RM88,300. Depending on the variant and options selected, the price can go up to around ¥165,800 (about RM107,800).
