Locally assembled Porsche Cayenne reaches 1k production milestone

KUALA LUMPUR: It has just been a little over a year since local production of the Porsche Cayenne commenced in Malaysia at the automaker’s Inokom assembly plant in Kulim, Kedah. And now we hear that this plant, which is also the brand’s first local assembly facility outside Europe has achieved the production milestone of 1000 units.

Christopher Hunter, CEO of Sime Darby Auto Performance on the achievement said, “We are very pleased to reach this milestone with the locally assembled Cayenne, affirming once again that the Porsche SUV remains a favorite with our customers. Our local assembly facility in Inokom continues to support our growth, to meet the demand from sports car fans in Malaysia.”

He further added, “This growth in demand also speaks volumes about our high quality – proof that a Porsche is built to the highest standards.”

The Inokom assembly plant in Kulim highlights the importance of the Malaysian market for Porsche and also affirms Porsche and Sime Darby’s long-standing partnership. Also, the plant and the partnership have helped empower the local community and auto industry by keeping the facility 100% staffed with skilled localities.

Porsche Cayenne in Malaysia

The Cayenne recently celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2022. In Malaysia, the luxury SUV is offered in a single trim option, powered by a 3.0-litre turbo V6 engine generating a max power of 340 hp and a peak torque of 450 Nm. The drive is sent to all-four wheels via an 8-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission.
