Longer-range Nissan Leaf might debut at CES 2019

KUALA LUMPUR: Nissan is all set to make it big at the Consumer Electronics Show 2019, to be held in Las Vegas, USA. And for the show, the company is focusing on the ‘Nissan Intelligent Mobility’. It would include its completely integrated EV ecosystem and connected car technology system, besides debuting several cars. One of the cars to debut could be the new Leaf Nismo RC (with two electric motors).

However, one of the most interesting things about Nissan’s presence at the Consumer Electronic Show 2019 is the fact that there are teasers of the introduction of the longer-range Leaf EV. The special fact about the longer range version is that it will have a bigger 60 kWh battery pack instead of a 40 kWh. And if the leaked information is to be considered, the bigger battery would be taking the driving range high by a considerable margin. The current model has a range of around 240 km while the new one could have around 579 km.

However, for this longer-range Nissan Leaf, it is not only the battery that will be growing in capacity, but other things would also be on the high side. For example, the company will be using a bigger 160 kW motor. Apart from this, there are possibilities that the DC fast-charging capacity could also be increased to 100 kW from 50 kW of the current.

Wondering what the configuration would do the new Leaf? Well, the 0-100 kmph acceleration can be done in just 6.5 seconds. This is a whopping two seconds faster than the small battery Leaf.

The local debut of this bigger battery Nissan Leaf could still be very distant as we had the second-generation model was unveiled at the KLIMS 2018 recently.
