MAS 2025: MG S5 EV bookings open – RWD Electric SUV from RM115k

KUALA LUMPUR: The new MG S5 EV has made its official Malaysian debut at the 2025 Malaysia Autoshow, priced from RM115,000. Positioned as a fully electric B-segment SUV with rear-wheel drive and a generous feature list, the S5 EV adds serious competition to Malaysia’s growing entry-level EV market.

MG S5 EV: Key Highlights

Available in two variants, the S5 EV comes with either a 49 kWh battery offering up to 340 km of WLTP-rated range, or a larger 62 kWh battery capable of 430 km. Both power a 125 kW (170 PS), 250 Nm electric motor driving the rear wheels—a rarity in this price bracket. DC fast charging is supported up to 120 kW or 150 kW depending on variant, while AC charging is rated at 6.6 kW. Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality is standard, allowing users to power external electronics directly from the car.

Inside, the S5 EV packs a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen with voice control, paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both included. Safety-wise, the SUV is equipped with seven airbags and a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane keeping assist.

Buyers who opt for the Extended Range variant will also enjoy a panoramic sunroof, power tailgate, heated leather steering wheel, 18-inch alloys, a premium 6-speaker audio system, power-adjustable driver’s seat, 360-degree surround view camera, and MG’s unique perforated fabric-leather seat design.

Customers booking the MG S5 EV during the Malaysia Autoshow can take advantage of an exclusive early bird package. With just RM500 down, early supporters will receive savings worth 10 times that amount, plus a complimentary 7kW Wallbox AC charger to support convenient home charging.

Five colours will be offered at launch: Arctic White, Monument Silver, Camden Grey, Dynamic Red, and Elegant Latte. The MG S5 EV has already made appearances in China, Thailand, and Singapore under various market names, but Malaysia will be one of its key right-hand-drive markets moving forward.

Speaking at the launch, Emory Qifeng, Managing Director of SAIC Motor Malaysia, described the S5 EV as a new chapter for MG in Malaysia. “It sets the standard for what drivers can expect from our brand, with best-in-class driving dynamics for this segment,” he said.

As for competition, the S5 EV is entering a space already populated by the likes of the BYD Atto 3, Chery Omoda E5, and Proton’s e.MAS 7. However, its rear-wheel drive setup, flexible battery options, and tech-heavy spec sheet give it a distinct edge.

MG at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025

Visitors to the Malaysia Autoshow at MAEPS Serdang can explore MG’s full range, including the new S5 EV, MG5, MG4, MG HS, and the head-turning MG Cyberster—the world’s first all-electric soft-top roadster.

The S5 EV is available for public test drives exclusively at the event, giving Malaysians their first opportunity to get behind the wheel before the model’s official retail release. Test drives for the MG5, MG4, and MG HS will also run throughout the Autoshow.

Customers who book the MG Cyberster will receive a 1-year Unlimited Charging package with JomCharge (featuring Auto Charge functionality), a complimentary 7kW Wallbox AC charger, and a limited-edition MG Cyberster diecast model.

Other show deals include a RM5,000 rebate on the MG5 and MG HS, and flexible ownership for the MG4 with monthly instalments starting as low as RM974. Every booking made at the Autoshow will also include a complimentary gift.

EV Workshops with Bridgestone Malaysia

MG Motor Malaysia, in collaboration with Bridgestone Malaysia, will host two public workshops during the Autoshow. Titled “Get to Know EV Tyres and Technology” and “Tyre Care and Know-How for Every Driver,” the sessions aim to educate attendees about EV-specific tyre innovations and essential maintenance practices. These workshops will be held from May 9 to 11, at 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM.

The MG booth is located at Hall A02, with the event running from May 9 to 15 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS). Doors are open daily from 10 AM to 10 PM.

The all-new MG S5 EV is priced from RM115,000, excluding registration fees and insurance. With its class-leading driving dynamics, rear-wheel drive, and a complete feature set, MG is aiming to reshape expectations in the entry-level EV SUV segment.
