MAS 2025: Omoda C7 PHEV previewed in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The Omoda & Jaecoo charge into the Malaysian market continues with the preview of the Omoda C7 PHEV at the 2025 Malaysia Autoshow. 

Making its first appearance in Malaysia, the five-seater plug-in hybrid SUV is strategically positioned between the Omoda 5 and Omoda C9, aimed squarely at the C-segment SUV crowd.

Performance and Hybrid Powertrain

The Omoda C7 SHS (Super Hybrid System) is built on the same electrified platform as the Jaecoo J7 PHEV, but packs slightly more punch. Under the hood is a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine (156 PS / 220 Nm), paired with a powerful 204 PS / 310 Nm electric motor. 

The combined system output stands at 360 PS and 530 Nm, delivering a 0–100 km/h time of 8.5 seconds via a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT).

Power comes from an 18.3 kWh Blade Battery sourced from BYD, providing up to 95 km of EV-only driving range. When fully fuelled and charged, the C7 PHEV boasts a total range of 1,250 km, making it ideal for both city commutes and interstate journeys.

Exterior Design: bold and futuristic

Visually, the Omoda C7 distinguishes itself with a shark-nose front profile, body-coloured parametric grille, and a clamshell bonnet design that flows into crisp side panels. The rear features dramatic zig-zag LED taillights, echoing design language from the Omoda 5 and C9.

A set of massive 20-inch alloy wheels, flush pop-out door handles, and blacked-out D-pillars give the SUV a planted, premium stance—clearly designed with global style appeal in mind.

Interior tech and comfort

Step inside, and the Omoda C7 continues its high-tech narrative. A massive 15.6-inch infotainment screen dominates the minimalist dash and can slide across to the passenger side—a novelty feature in its class. Audio comes via a Sony 12+2 speaker setup, likely including headrest speakers, and active noise cancellation enhances cabin comfort.

The flat-bottom steering wheel adds a bit of flair, complemented by nubuck leather front seats styled like racing bucket seats

Malaysia's launch and brand strategy

Although it’s only a preview for now, the Omoda C7 is expected to arrive in Malaysia sometime after the Jaecoo J8 and J6(possibly now named iCAUR 03) are launched. Interestingly, this is the first model designed specifically for Omoda as a global brand, rather than a rebadged Chery or Exeed model.

With some markets, including ours shifting toward separate Omoda and Jaecoo branding, the C7 could be the first to drop the “by Jaecoo” badge altogether in Malaysia.
