Mazda CX-8 to be showcased at Malaysia Autoshow

KUALA LUMPUR: Mazda Malaysia is going to preview the CX-8 SUV that is scheduled to launch later in 2019. The preview will take place at the upcoming Malaysia Autoshow 2019 that'll take place from 11th to 14th April.

The CX-8 is the latest addition to the Mazda’s SUV range and is going to slot between the CX-5 and the premium CX-9. To recall, CX-5 and CX-9 are already available in Malaysia in five and two variants, respectively.

Coming back to the vehicle in interest, the upcoming SUV will be offered in a total of four variants. However, the specs of the car, which will be showcased may differ from the Malaysian-spec CX-8. Furthermore, it is also confirmed that the interior of the car will be made available for spectating for selected hours.

Among the tentative four variants, the range-topping model will be powered by a diesel engine, while the remaining three will get petrol mills. Moreover, the diesel variant will be the only one to get an all-wheel-drive layout.

Dwelling into the available details, the diesel variant will equip a 2.2-litre SkyActiv-D turbodiesel engine as its powerhouse. This mill is capable of churning out a maximum power of 188 hp and a peak torque of 450 Nm. Whereas, all the three petrol versions get a 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G naturally-aspirated engine, which delivers a maximum power of 192 hp and a peak torque of 257 Nm. It will be mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox, and the drive is sent to the front wheels.

As per the unconfirmed spec-sheet, all the variants of CX-8 are similar in terms of features and equipment. The only difference comes in the seat layout and materials wrapping the seats. The top petrol and diesel version will have leather instead of fabric upholstery, which makes its way to the other two variants.
