    Next-gen Lexus ES: What’s new?

    Bigger footprint

Built on a new “multi-pathway” platform (evolved version of the existing TNGA GA-K architecture), the new ES measures 5,140 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,555 mm in height, and spans a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. Compared to the outgoing model, it is 165 mm longer, 55 mm wider, and 110 mm taller and has an 80 mm longer wheelbase.

    Hybrid drivetrain under the skin

As mentioned above, the sedan underpins “multi-pathway,” which means it can accommodate both hybrid and fully electric powertrains. However, the local-spec model will feature Lexus’ sixth-generation hybrid system, which we can also find on the Australian-spec version.

The Lexus ES Hybrid on sale in Australia comprises a 143-PS 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine paired with a 204-PS electric motor, delivering a combined output of 196 PS. Power is sent to the front wheels via an e-CVT gearbox.

    Redesign exterior

The upgraded ES boasts the ‘Clean Tech x Elegance’ design language inspired by the Lexus LF-ZC concept. The bold-looking sedan comes equipped with a new spindle grille that has noticeably toned down, new twin L-signature headlights, and a sharper, more aerodynamic profile with sculpted bodywork and a coupe-like roofline.

Towards the rear, we can find a full-width light bar incorporating an L-signature lighting design and the illuminated ‘Lexus’ wordmark, creating a striking visual identity.

    Intuitively and thoughtfully designed interior

In terms of cabin enhancements, the new ES has undergone a significant transformation. There is a completely redesigned dashboard with a new steering wheel incorporating the embossed Lexus wordmark. One of the unique highlights is world-first responsive hidden switches that remain hidden when the car is off and illuminate when required.

As for screens, you get a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch infotainment unit, powered by the brand’s latest multimedia system. The seats of the upgraded sedan are smaller, while the glass area is larger with lower window lines for a brighter and airier ambience.

For safety, the new ES comes equipped with upgraded Lexus’s Safety System+ ADAS pack, comprising a new eco function for the adaptive cruise control, smoother lane change assist, navigation-based curve speed reduction, enhanced junction support for the autonomous emergency braking, and more.
