Porsche Design completes 50 years with a special edition 911 model

KUALA LUMPUR: The year 2022 marks the completion of 50 years of Porsche Design and to mark the milestone the automaker has introduced a very special car, called the 2022 Porsche 911 Edition 50 Years Porsche Design.

Limited to just 750 units globally, the special edition 911 is based on the 911 Targa 4 GTS and bears special aesthetic elements inspired by Chronograph 1, the first watch from Porsche’s new watch company, Ferdinand Alexander (F.A.).

The special edition Porsche Design 50th Anniversary 911 model features a luscious black exterior finish like the Chronograph 1 watch. Further accentuating the car’s look is the Stain Platinum-finish seen on the 20/21-inch center-looking Turbo S wheels, signature Targa bar, and decals.

Speaking out the car’s identity out loud is the large ‘50 Year Porsche Design’ badge on the grille over the engine cover.

Powering the commemorative 911 Targa 4 GTS is a 3.0-litre six-cylinder twin-turbocharged flat engine making a maximum power output of 480 hp along with a peak torque of 570 Nm. On the transmission front, the company is offering two options - a 7-speed manual, and an 8-speed PDK transmission.

Helping improve the car’s performance are features like - sports exhaust system, Sport Chrono Package, all-wheel-drive system, Porsche Traction Management (PTM), and corresponding differential paired with the transmission. All this enables the car to complete the century sprint in just 3.5 seconds.

On the inside, the special edition model reflects its uniqueness via elements like Sport-Tex seats with a checked pattern, GT Sport steering wheel with a center marker, 50 Years logo embossed on headrests, and center console lid with serial number badge and F.A. Porsche signature.

In addition, a 1972 Porsche 911 S 2.4 Targa has been restored by Porsche Classic. It was the same year when Porsche Design was founded by F.A. Porsche and his brother Hans-Peter Porsche. Also, the brand is having a special exhibit at the Porsche Museum to celebrate the golden jubilee.

In the USA, the Porsche 911 Edition 50 Years Porsche Design together with the Chronograph 1 watch are sold for close to USD 197,000 (approx. RM 825k).

In Malaysia, though we don’t have this special 911 anniversary edition, Sime Darby Auto Performance has made the retro-inspired Porsche 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition available from August 2021.
