Porsche Malaysia and MAM’s nationwide road safety awareness programme is called “Students Today. Drivers Tomorrow.”What is the purpose of the initiative?
This initiative aims to develop positive habits on the road for generations to come.Porsche Malaysia, represented by Sime Darby Auto Performance (Auto Performance) has collaborated with the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) to drive a nationwide effort, “Students Today. Drivers Tomorrow,” which aims to educate the drivers of tomorrow about the critical importance of road safety.
According to a Bernama report, over 530,000 road accidents have been recorded in Malaysia from January to October 2024, with poor driving habits as one of the reasons. This highlights road safety as a pressing issue in the country.
Porsche Malaysia, together with MAM, aims to contribute towards improving safety on the roads by introducing road safety and responsible driving education in schools from a young age. These skills and knowledge are required to shape the future of road safety in Malaysia.
Key highlights of this nationwide road safety initiative are as follows -
- As a part of the partnership, Porsche Malaysia and MAM will visit selected schools to educate students about road safety and the importance of responsible driving.
- The roadshow will include a road safety talk with motorsports instructors and interactive quizzes to test students’ knowledge.
- The students will also get a chance to participate in driving simulations through a simulator, allowing them to experience what it’s like to be behind the wheel while applying what they have learned in a controlled environment.
- With such a hands-on approach, students will be able to understand the importance of road safety, making them safer drivers in the future.
Through engaging and interactive workshops, this nationwide road safety awareness campaign has reached over 1,600 participants between the ages of 7 to 17 years old.
Upon introducing this campaign, Christopher Hunter, Chief Executive Officer of Auto Performance, said, “Motorsports is deeply embedded in our DNA, but beyond performance and passion, road safety remains a fundamental aspect of driving. We’re proud to be partnering with the Motorsports Association of Malaysia to educate the drivers of tomorrow on the importance of road safety.”
“It is crucial that we create awareness among students—our drivers of tomorrow—by equipping them with essential road safety knowledge and responsible driving habits from an early age. More importantly, by taking this knowledge home, they can influence their families to adopt safer driving practices, fostering a more responsible driving culture and contributing to safer roads across Malaysia,” he added.
Tan Sri Mokhzani Tun Mahathir, President of the Motorsports Association of Malaysia, shared, “We are excited to join forces with Porsche Malaysia to launch this road safety initiative. Education is the first step towards creating responsible drivers. By teaching students about road safety at an early age, we can instill lifelong habits that will ensure safer roads for everyone. We look forward to seeing how this partnership will not only impact the students but also inspire a broader community movement towards safer driving practices.”
