Porsche sales 70k+ cars globally in Q1 2021

KUALA LUMPUR: The year 2021 seems to have begun on the right note for the German automotive brand, Porsche. As the automaker has reported a 28 percent hike in its sales revenue (from 6.0 billion in 2020 to 7.7 billion euros in 2021), all thanks to its doubled operating result which in 2020 stood at 572 million euros and in Q1 of 2021 increased to 1.2 billion euros.

Furthermore, the return on sales improved from 9.5 to 16.2 percent.

How many cars did Porsche sell in Q1 of 2021?

In the first months of 2021 close to 72,000 Porsche cars were sold worldwide, thus making it once again one the most profitable car brands around. Compared to last year, it’s a 36 percent hike.

Which model grabbed the most sales?

In the Porsche lineup, the model that acquired the maximum sales was the Macan, which otherwise is also one of the most popular Porsche models. A total of 22,458 units of the Macan were delivered in Q1 2021.

Other models like the 911 sports car and the all-electric Taycan also performed exceptionally well with 9,13 and 9,072 units delivered globally.

The reason behind the hike?

Well, one of the significant causes behind the influx in operating and revenue results is the economic downturn in Q1 2020 that several brands witnessed due to the pandemic.

Porsche AG Chairman of the Executive Board, Oliver Blume said, "We will sell significantly more Taycan cars this year than in 2020. In the first quarter, deliveries of our successful all-electric model were already almost half of the total for all of 2020. A particularly pleasing fact here is that around 50 percent of the buyers are new customers. The Taycan is therefore increasing the size of our fan base."
