KUALA LUMPUR: Proton New Energy Technology (PRO-NET), the EV subsidiary of Proton, has taken another step in its electrification journey by opening its first standalone DC charging hub at the company’s headquarters in Tanjung Malim.

The rate is RM0.80 per kWh, among the lowest in Malaysia. For October 2025, Proton is offering a promotional rate of RM0.40 per kWh.Can non-Proton EVs use the new charging hub?
Yes. The DC charging hub is open to all EV owners, regardless of brand, following Proton’s ST EVCS license approval. The facility, located at the administration building, features two DC chargers with a combined output of 120 kW, spread across four charging bays.

That means up to four EVs can be charged at the same time. More importantly, this marks the first time Proton is running its own charging infrastructure rather than relying on third-party operators.
According to PRO-NET, managing its own charging hub gives the company direct control over cost, accessibility, and the user experience — an important step as Proton ramps up its e.MAS EV programme.
“This charging hub is a significant step forward for us, not just as a facility but as part of our commitment to build a stronger EV ecosystem for Malaysia. By keeping the service affordable and simple to use, we hope to make EV adoption more appealing for everyone. Tanjung Malim is where PRO-NET’s story began, so it is fitting for us to also start this new chapter here,” said PRO-NET CEO Zhang Qiang during the launch.

Unlike some manufacturer-backed chargers that are limited to specific brands, Proton’s DC hub is open to all EV users, thanks to its ST EVCS license. Charging is kept straightforward: instead of downloading yet another app, users can scan a QR code and access a web-based interface for activation and payment.
That said, owners of Proton’s upcoming e.MAS EVs and Smart models will still be able to use the e.MAS app and Hello smart app, both of which are integrated with the new system.
Proton has also pitched the pricing aggressively. The hub’s rate is set at RM0.80 per kWh, which places it among the cheapest DC charging options in Malaysia. To mark the launch, all users get a 50% discount throughout October 2025 — meaning just RM0.40 per kWh.
Building Tanjung Malim into Malaysia’s EV hub
The DC charging hub is part of Proton’s broader EV strategy centred in Tanjung Malim, where the brand’s new EV production plant is nearing completion. Once operational, the factory will roll out Malaysia’s first locally built Proton EVs while also creating jobs, developing local expertise, and strengthening the domestic EV supply chain.
The move reinforces Proton’s ambition to turn Tanjung Malim into the country’s main hub for electric mobility, with local production, infrastructure, and ecosystem support all under one roof.
