Proton sold 10k+ units in May 2019

KUALA LUMPUR: Proton, Malaysia’s national carmaker has registered its highest sales in 46 months. The automaker sold 10,611 units in May alone, making it the best sales month of the period.

Compared to April, last month automaker has marked 51.3 percent increase in sales. Thus, pushing the sales of the first five months of 2019 to over 70 percent when compared to the same period last year.

With over 10k cars sold, Proton’s holds 17.2 percent of the market share for the month, another great achievement by the brand. This one especially knocked the brand’s door long after January 2016.

According to the carmaker, the credit for this success goes to all models in its lineup integrated with intelligent features. With the largest contributor being the brand’s first SUV, the X70. In May alone, the company sold a total of 2,439 units of the SUV, and overall around 13,572 units have been delivered to the customers in the first five months of 2019. Thus, making the Proton X70 the market leader in sales in the segment.

As per Proton’s Chief Executive Officer, Li Churong, the company is hopeful of occupying the second spot in the overall sales record that is revealed by the Malaysian Automotive Association every month, for the second consecutive month.

He further said, “With a 70% increase in sales volume thus far in 2019, Proton is reaping some early rewards for its investment in products, people and sales outlets. We are confident of being able to maintain our strong sales performance for the rest of the year.”

• Proton Persona - 2972 units
• Proton Iriz 2019 - 940 units
• Proton Saga - 3000 units

Since launch, Proton has sold 4,000 units of the new models. With their cumulative sales mark touching 36 percent portion of the company’s overall sales.

As for the newly launched Exora, Proton will focus on building volume for the MPV with intelligent features, while doing the same for the other models in the lineup. Also, Proton is planning to open more 3S/4S outlets to expand its network over its competitors.
