Proton X70 clocked 2979 units in March 2019

KUALA LUMPUR: It was a record-setting first quarter for Proton with the highest ever SUV sales in Malaysian history. Dr. Li Chunrong, Proton Malaysia CEO said “The numbers posted by Proton in 2019 is the direct result of hard work put in at every level of the company. These achievements are possible due to the growth in the number of 3S/4S outlets, an increase in product quality, refocusing on customer service and improvements in many other areas. With the forthcoming launch of our updated models later this year, Proton is confident its investment in the business will continue to benefit sales growth.”

In March alone, Proton had sold 6,145 vehicles, which makes up 11% of the market share (an increase of 2.6% from March 2018). Breaking this figure down further, the X70 SUV had sold 2,979 units in March 2019. According to Proton, this makes a new record for the most registrations ever obtained by an SUV in a single month for the Malaysian auto market. Since its launch last year, the X70 has sold 9,906 units and has received over 25,000 bookings till date. Dr. Li also added that “With delivery numbers of the Proton X70 increasing, we are hopeful of being able to reduce waiting times for our customers. At the same time, we are working diligently to ensure each unit we deliver is perfect as our aim is for our new SUV to be the highest rated vehicle for the Initial Quality Study rankings for Malaysia in 2019,”

Proton Sales in Q1 of 2019

Compared to March of last year, Proton has seen a 46.1% increase in sales for March of 2019. This growth rate is four times higher than the auto industry as a whole. The first quarter of this year sees a 43.5% rise in sales over the same period last year. With such impressive numbers, it’s no wonder Proton claims that it is ahead of all rivals in terms of growth. They even have a substantial lead over the 4th top-selling brand in Malaysia, which is the Japanese giant Toyota.

A significant factor for the increasing number of sales is the 75 3S/4S dealerships across the country. This is the most by any automaker in Malaysia. According to Dr. Li, these outlets are very effective at attracting new and current customers to their brand as they can deliver a premium sales and after sales service experience. With more Proton models coming in the future, the company will add more dealerships to its existing network and hopefully continue to dominate the market.
