Proton X70 Malaysia-China Amazing Trip 2019 convoy concluded; covers more than 13k km

KUALA LUMPUR: The Proton X70 Malaysia-China Amazing Trip 2019 convoy has finally reached Malaysia after touring over four countries. The trip, which embarked on February 26 was organised by Borneo Automobile Leisure Touring, and Kunming Scenery-Customer International Travel Co included nine units of Proton X70.

Datuk Wong Kean Hwee, a participant of the trip, said: “We were already impressed by the high levels of comfort and refinement the Proton X70 has and after spending 33 days driving over 13,000 km on unpredictable roads, I am convinced this is one of the best choices in its class.”

13,000 km is undoubtedly a long journey, and the most important part is that it passed through different regions and their specific challenges. All the X70 were owned by the participants themselves, and apart from maintenance by the company and its regional partners, all the expenses are borne by the participants.

Amazingly, all X70s completed the round trip without any breakdown in between. Apart from scheduled servicing, the motor-fleet completed the entire trip without any repairs. Furthermore, the convoy spent most of its time in China, where the group completed half of its journey by arriving at the city of Hangzhou. It then followed the same route to reach back to Malaysia.

To recall, Proton X70 was launched in December 2018 and is sold exclusively in Malaysia with four variants. All the variants are powered by a 1.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged direct-injected petrol engine that churns out a maximum power of 181 hp at 5,500 rpm along with a peak torque of 285 Nm within a rev range of 1,700 rpm to 4,400 rpm.
