Proton X70 starts production line at Tanjung Malim

KUALA LUMPUR: A year after Proton X70’s launch, production line starts to roll off in Tanjung Malim, Malaysia ahead of its introduction to the market. Several dignitaries were in attendance at the production line launch event.

Proton X70 was launched in 2018 and had started to roll out cars from December this year, thereby fulfilling its promise made last year at the time of launch. The X70 was produced at Tanjung Malim, in a state-of-the-art plant extension, valued at RM 1.2 billion in record time.

Meanwhile, the automakers worked closely with vendors from all over to create an outstanding supply chain. As Proton aims to become a global automotive brand, it tied up with Geely Auto to expand its horizon. Geely has assured of full support to Proton to help it reach its global status.

In order to commence its manufacturing activities, Proton worked closely with local vendors to reach the local market first and match them with other companies. With Proton X70 being manufactured in Tanjung Malim, new developments have been witnessed in Malaysia’s automotive vendor ecosystem.

The undertaken efforts have witnessed new joint-ventures, as both local and foreign companies started partnerships based in the country. FDI came in, creating around 1084 jobs and a total investment of RM 263 million boosting the economy of Malaysia. Vendors are a crucial component driving the growth of the country and Proton has helped in establishing the vendor community majorly.

The introduction of new technologies will help in the development of the industry and will result in Malaysia becoming a leading automotive parts supplier.

Proton’s local supplier base will help it in suiting the local car-buyers and the future expansion plan of the company, as it tends to develop local vendors which is expected to benefit more consumers.
