Proton X70 vs rivals: Specs comparo

KUALA LUMPUR: Proton is a famous car manufacturer in Malaysia. It has got a number of products selling in good numbers in the country. Proton has been working on a new vehicle for quite some time now. This new product is called the Proton X70 and it is the first SUV that Proton has ever made. Launched today, the X70 has already gained a lot of attention of the interested buyers and rivals like Toyota Rush 2018, Ford EcoSport, and Mazda CX-5. Proton X70 specs have already been disclosed by the company prior to the launch. Here, we are going to do a quick specs comparison between the X70 and its top rivals.

Engine specs

Proton X70 Rivals Engine

The Proton X70 specs show a 1.8-litre petrol engine that produces 184 PS of power and 285 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with drive mode selection available as well. There’s an option of an AWD model for the hassle-free driving experience.

Toyota Rush 2018 is powered by a less powerful 1.5-litre engine that churns out 105 PS and 136 Nm. For the transmission duties, there is a 4-speed automatic gearbox. Following the Rush is Ford EcoSport that is also powered by a 1.5L engine with 110 PS of max power and 142 Nm of peak torque. The power transmission is handled by a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The last one on the list is the Mazda CX-5, which is the most powerful of the lot. It comes with three engine options. But we will consider the least powerful for our comparison, as that is the only variant that falls close to the price range of the Proton X70. The engine is a 2.0-litre producing 164 PS and 210 Nm. It comes mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox with Manual Shift mode.

Dimensions

Proton X70 Rivals Appearance

Out of the four cars, the Mazda CX-5 is the longest, measuring at 4,550 mm. The Proton X70 stands second with a length of 4,519 mm. The third one on the list is the mighty Toyota Rush which is 4,435 mm long. And the last one is the Ford EcoSport with a length that measures at just 4,273mm.

All of these vehicles are above the 4-meter mark. This implies that the interior space in all of them should be more than sufficient to be comfortable for all the occupants. While the longest of them all is the Mazda CX-5, it is the brand-new Proton X70 that is the widest. It measures 1,831 mm in width.

Fuel tank capacity

Proton X70 Rivals Fuel Guage

This is another aspect where the new Proton X70 wins. With a powerful yet fuel-efficient engine, the X70 can crunch much more miles as it comes with a large 60-litre fuel tank. Following the X70, in the second place is the Mazda CX-5 with its 56-litre fuel tank. Then we’ve got the Ford EcoSport with a fuel tank capacity of 52-litre. Surprisingly, the Toyota Rush has got the tiniest fuel tank of only 45litre.

Safety features

Proton X70 Rivals Safety

Some of the safety features that are common among all the four cars include ABS, EBD, airbags (quantity may differ), stability control, brake assist, etc. The X70 has some additional safety features like the forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind spot information system, TMPS, a 360-degree camera and parking sensors.

Mazda CX-5 comes with its own set of advanced safety features that make it that much safer. These include a traction control system, hill launch assist, auto hold function, and many other adaptive safety technologies.

Toyota Rush 2018 also has some interesting safety features like traction control, pre-collision system, auto door lock, front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, and hill start assist. Now remains the Ford EcoSport, which comes with hill launch assist, traction control, rear parking sensor, and the use of high-strength boron steel in the doors.

So this was a quick specs comparison between the new Proton X70 and some of its major rivals. The SUV has been launched by Proton and will hit the showrooms very soon. Interestingly, there was also a Facebook Live Contest that ran along the official launch of the X70.
