Say hello to the new 2020 Lexus RX

KUALA LUMPUR: Toyota's luxury vehicle division, Lexus has unveiled the new 2020 RX. Barring some cosmetic updates, there are no noticeable changes on the design front. However, the fourth-gen model gets significant updates in terms of multimedia, chassis, and safety.

The biggest change on the new Lexus can be seen inside. It features the Lexus Remote Touch interface that supports Alexa integration, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A new 8.0-inch display along with an optional 12.3-inch unit has been provided to manage the infotainment. The larger touchscreen also comes with an enhanced voice command functionality.

2020 Lexus RX's suspension has also gone through revision. The dampers and shock absorbers are further retuned and the anti-roll bars have gone stiffer to enhance the comfortability during the long drive.

To make the handling and stability during turns better, the new model now comes with a brake-based torque vectoring system, which applies the braking on the inner wheels.

A modified Active Variable Suspension system has been provided to the F Sport models. The standard F Sport models get the performance-tuned dampers, whereas, the top-spec F Sport models get a heated steering wheel along with a special electric power steering system, active sound control, and cold air intake.

Safety has been enhanced as the 2020 Lexus RX is equipped with the brand’s own Safety System+ 2.0. It now gets cyclist detection, lane tracing assist, and low-light pedestrian detection.

Visually, the changes for the new 2020 Lexus RX are minor and one needs to look closely to find out the same. The spindle grille is reshaped and features square-like inserts, and the headlight clusters have become thinner.

Lexus has not made any changes in powertrains. The RX 450h comes with an electric motor and the entire system is capable of pushing out a maximum power of 308 PS. It is paired with a CVT. On the other hand, there is a 3.5-litre V6 engine option, which can churn out a maximum power of 295 PS and is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
