smart Malaysia opens bookings for the all-new smart#5 – rugged EV SUV with up to 590 km range

KUALA LUMPUR: After making its first local appearance at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025, and recently previewed at smart Glenmarie, smart Malaysia has officially opened bookings for the all-new smart#5, the brand’s latest all-electric SUV.

The smart#5 marks another step in smart’s lineup in Malaysia, bringing a new model that combines rugged design, performance, and everyday practicality into one package.

Dubbed the “Contemporary Adventurer”, the smart #5 targets urban drivers who want more versatility from an EV — offering extra space, range, and presence on the road. The #5’s boxy, upright design gives it a confident stance, setting it apart from the more curvy #1 and #3 models in smart’s current lineup.

“This model represents a new dimension of electric mobility — one that is powerful, practical, and unmistakably smart,” said Zhang Qiang, CEO of smart Malaysia. “With its rugged design, long-range capability, and intelligent features, the smart #5 is built to future-proof every journey.”

Easy booking and availability

Bookings are now open with a RM2,000 fee, available through two main channels:

• The Hello smart App, downloadable via Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and Huawei App Gallery

• The smart Malaysia website

This setup lets buyers choose between a fully digital experience or an in-person visit to authorised showrooms.

Premium cabin with unique features

The smart #5’s interior takes a step up in both comfort and craftsmanship. The cabin features Nappa leather covering over 90% of interior surfaces, real oak wood trims, and a tie-clip-inspired dashboard design. Adding to its comfort is a 1.7 m² panoramic roof, powered sunshade, and even an onboard chiller located in the centre armrest.

Double-glazed soundproof glass helps keep the cabin quiet, while a range of configurations — including three bed modes, ventilated seats, and one-touch comfort mode — make it ideal for long trips or parked relaxation.

Practicality is another strong point. There are 34 storage compartments, a 1,530-litre rear boot, and a 72-litre frunk, making it suitable for family trips, camping, or daily errands.

The dashboard houses dual 13-inch OLED screens and a 25.6-inch AR head-up display, powered by an AMD V2000 automotive-grade processor. The infotainment system features a ChatGPT-powered virtual assistant named LEO, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.

Sound quality is also a highlight — a 20-speaker SENNHEISER audio system with Dolby Atmos and an auto-lifting centre speaker provides an immersive listening experience, complete with ambient lighting.

Safety and performance

The smart #5 recently earned a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, reportedly achieving the highest overall safety score among large SUVs tested in 2025. The body uses 82% high-strength steel and delivers 42,000 Nm of torsional rigidity. It’s equipped with seven airbags, Smart Pilot Assist, Highway Pilot Assist, and a 360° camera system.

There are nine drive modes, including five off-road modes, supported by a double wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension setup.

Two variants: Premium and BRABUS

The lineup consists of two main variants — the smart #5 Premium and the smart #5 BRABUS.

• smart #5 Premium: Rear-wheel drive, 0–100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. Powered by a 100 kWh battery offering up to 590 km WLTP range. Supports 800V architecture, 22 kW AC charging, and 400 kW DC fast charging.

• smart #5 BRABUS: Dual-motor AWD setup with 3.8-second 0–100 km/h time, Launch Mode, and a custom BRABUS sound profile. Exterior enhancements include 21-inch BRABUS Monoblock Z wheels, red brake callipers, and Dinamica microfibre seats.

Both models stay true to smart’s direction of making EVs that are functional yet full of character.
