Suzuki Singapore includes Swift Sport in its lineup

KUALA LUMPUR: Suzuki Swift Sport has made a comeback in the Singapore market. Priced at SGD 109,900 (RM 338,720), the hot hatch would be sold by the automaker’s sole distributor in the country, Champion Motors.

Before you start assuming, the Swift Sport we have here is different from the Singapore-spec model. So, let’s see what all the model has to offer to this ASEAN country, starting with its under the hood configuration.

The Singapore-spec Swift Sport is powered by a 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbo mill with Smart Hybrid Vehicle By Suzuki that includes a 48-volt mild hybrid system (code-named K14D). It is the unit powering the European model and meets the continent's latest Euro 6d emission standards. The powertrain makes a maximum power of 129 PS along with a peak torque of 235 Nm. Sending power to the wheels is a six-speed manual transmission. The mill setup comes with a belt-driven, integrated starter-generator (ISG) that generates 13.6 and 53 Nm.

On the performance front, the above-mentioned configuration allows the Suzuki Swift Sport to touch the century mark in 9.1 seconds. Furthermore, its combined fuel consumption
Stands at 21.2 kmph and the car has been given an A2 rating (second best) on Singapore’s Vehicular Emission System (VES) Banding.

Compared to the locally offered non-hybrid Swift Sport (engine code name: K14C), the Singapore-spec hybrid model makes less power - 140 PS from the former and 129 PS from the latter. On the other hand, with SHVS the K14D has a slight advantage over the K14C, with the latter making 230 Nm. However, in the century sprint, it is the latter that proves quicker, mainly because it is free from the added weight of the 48V-12V DC/DC converter and lithium-ion battery.

It is to be noted that the Malaysian-spec Suzuki Swift Sport misses out on the above-mentioned advanced driver-assist kit.

In Singapore, Suzuki is offering the Swift Sport in seven single-tone and three dual-tone options. The former includes - Super Black Pearl, Champion Yellow, Mineral Grey Metallic, Burning Red Pearl Metallic, Premium Silver Metallic, Pure White Pearl, and Speedy Blue Metallic. The two-tone options available are the blue roof & Flame Orange Pearl Metallic main body, and the Super Black Pearl roof & red main body.
