Upcoming 2023 Lexus RX: What do we know so far

It looks like Lexus is on a revamp spree. Toyota’s luxury arm is launching one model after another, giving customers a wide range of options and its competitors a thing or two to worry about.

It was only recently that Lexus introduced the all-new NX SUV in the Malaysian market, followed by the reveal of the new UX, and now the carmaker is gearing up for the launch of the all-new 2023 RX.

Yes, Lexus has confirmed the arrival of the next-gen RX SUV recently, and here we are bringing you every bit of information on the brand’s upcoming model. Let’s get started -

Arrival

The 2023 Lexus RX launch will mark a new chapter in the brand’s electric vehicle lineup. The electric SUV will launch on June 1, 2022, at 9:00 am in Japan, that's  8:00 am the same day in Malaysia.

Design

The teaser image released by Lexus gives us a good look at the car’s front profile. Like several models, the RX showcases the brand’s spindle grille with a twist. The unit now showcases a mostly black mesh design with a partly blocked-off white panel at the top.

Though not visible fully, the headlight unit appears new, reshaped with a familiar check-mark lighting signature.

Also visible are prominent intake vents on the edge of the front bumper, suggesting it to be an F Sport variant.

This is all the information on the design, as Lexus has just shown us one image of the car (front profile) in shadow. However, we expect the rest of the car to get a slight design update.

Features

The 2023 Lexus RX is expected to benefit from a massive 14.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that recently debuted in the 2022 Lexus NX and has been confirmed for the upcoming electric RZ SUV.

Seating configuration

The current generation model is offered with two and three-row seating configurations. As for the upcoming 2023 RX, nothing is sure. However, we’d not mind getting the same options.

Variants

The 2023 RX is expected to offer two variant options - an entry-level RX350 and a hybrid RX450h. We also think that the RX lineup will sooner than later welcome a plug-in-hybrid which we believe will be called RX500h+. RX500 is a trademark Toyota applied about two years ago; the ‘+’ sign at the end denotes its PHEV nature, like all Lexus models in the segment

Engine options

The new RX350 is expected to be powered by a 2.4-litre inline-four turbo mill generating 275 hp and 430 Nm of torque. The unit is paired with 8-speed automatic transmission.

That’s all we know at the moment about the all-new RX. Lexus, in its PR, said, “Details of this all-new RX, the pioneer of luxury SUVs which has undergone a complete renewal, will be announced.” The phrase ‘complete renewal’ suggests a new design, new engines, and much more.
