Volvo S60 will come to Malaysia in Q3 2019
KUALA LUMPUR: The new S60, which was revealed in June earlier this year is the first Volvo that will be produced in the US. The global markets will start receiving the S60 in the second quarter of 2019 and now it has been confirmed that the Malaysian market will get its share of Volvo treat from the third quarter of 2019.
The initial units of the S60 will be CBUs. And it is expected that the sedan will then be assembled in Malaysia for local sales and exports to Thailand. The assembly in Malaysia will be done at Volvo’s Shah Alam plant.
Rivalling the Volvo S60 will be the BMW 3 Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Malaysia is very unlikely to get the Polestar variant of the S60. Also, the plug-in hybrid that makes a max power of 411 PS and a peak torque of 670 Nm won’t make it to the Malaysian market.
Powered by a twincharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder Drive-E mill, the S60 T6 AWD is expected to hit the Malaysian shores. With a turbocharger and a supercharger, this motor is capable of producing 314 PS of max power and a peak torque of 400 Nm. Aisin’s 8-speed automatic transmission takes care of the power delivery duties.
A completely-knocked-down (CKD) T5 is also expected once the assembling of the S60 begins in Malaysia itself. Also, twin-engine plug-in hybrids will arrive as well. Other S60 variants like the Momentum and the luxurious Inscription will be making their global debuts very soon.
Recently, the Swedish automaker launched the Volvo S90 T5 Momentum in Malaysia. Read our story on the launch here.
