Weekly wrap-up: 2025 BMW X3, 2025 BMW M5 launched, Leapmotor C10 price slashed, and more

This past week was quite exciting for local car enthusiasts as a thrilling range of BMW models landed on our shores, including the new X3, new 3 Series, and the new M lineup. Adding to the buzz were a massive price drop for the Leapmotor C10 and the rollout of the new Mitsubishi Triton Athlete. In the meantime, a few big reveals and announcements remain in the headlines in the global market.

Malaysia automotive market: Key updates

MY BMW World 2025 returns with several new launches

The bolder and bigger MY BMW World 2025 has made a comeback in Malaysia with an exciting range of new launches and unveilings. Taking place at Sentul Depot from June 13 to 15, the event introduced the following cars - 

  • 2025 BMW X3: The brand’s popular SUV benefits from a fresh new look and several tech and driving enhancements for the model year 2025. It is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine combined with 48V mild hybrid tech and has an estimated price of RM 349,000.

  • 2025 BMW 3 Series: The seventh-gen 3 Series has received yet another round of updates in the local market. This time the sedan gets new Pearl Chrome grille accents, new wheels, a BMW Curved Display, and more. The price tag reads RM 340,200. 
  • 2025 BMW 218 Gran Coupe: The entry-level four-door coupé now comes with a more polished look, more tech, and a bolder stance. Powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol, the upgraded model is expected to cost around RM 241,000. 
  • 2025 BMW M5: It is the most powerful BMW M5 ever created and the first to feature an electrified drivetrain that delivers 727 hp and 1,000 Nm and 0-100 kmph acceleration of 3.5 seconds. Priced at RM 1,188,800, the performance sedan has a commanding visual presence and a driver-focused cockpit.

  • 2025 BMW M3 Competition M xDrive: Underpinning BMW’s motorsport DNA, the new M3 Competition M xDrive features a refreshed design, an upmarket cabin and a 3.0-litre M TwinPower Turbo inline-6 engine. The price tag reads RM 838,800.
  • 2025 BMW M2: Priced at RM 650,800, the high-performance version of the 2 Series Coupé gets subtle cosmetic refinements while retaining its iconic compact silhouette. Also new for 2025 is an uprated 480 PS/600 Nm 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six petrol engine.
  • 2025 BMW M4 Competition Coupé M xDrive: The new BMW M4 Competition features several design updates, a sporty and premium cabin and a high-revving 3.0-litre powerhouse. It is priced at RM 870,800.

  • 2025 BMW R 1300 RT: This latest German touring motorcycle has a lighter, sleeker profile and an upgraded version of the legendary 1,300-cc twin-cylinder boxer engine. It is offered in three trims - Standard, Triple Black and Impulse, along with two special edition models. The price ranges from RM 167,000 to RM 180,000.

Leapmotor C10 see a massive cut price in Malaysia

Stellantis Malaysia has introduced the upgraded Leapmotor C10 with a significant price drop. The electric SUV is now priced at RM 125,000 (on the road, without insurance), which is RM 34,000 less than the 2024 model, priced at RM 159,700. As for upgrades, the EV gets an uprated 11 kW on-board charger, new upholstery palette, a new 32-litre frunk, a boot tonneau cover, a new Direct Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, and a motorised tyre inflator pump kit. Powering the C10 is the same 69.9-kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery pack, offering a drive range of up to 424 km on a full charge.

Mitsubishi Triton Athlete arrives in Malaysia 

Marking its 20th anniversary in Malaysia, Mitsubishi Motors has introduced a refreshed version of its range-topping Triton Athlete pickup. It benefits from a new front bumper garnish, decorative styling bar, exclusive decals, and a tailgate assist. The price has been slashed from RM 165,980 to RM 159,980 (on the road, without insurance), making the vehicle more affordable than earlier. In addition, the automaker has rolled out special offers to help buyers save more on its new pickup truck.

Proton e.MAS 7 launched in Trinidad and Tobago

Proton has marked yet another pivotal step in its international expansion with the launch of the e.MAS 7 in Trinidad and Tobago. The EV is offered in a single Premium variant in the Caribbean nation, powered by a 218 PS/320 Nm front-mounted electric motor and a 60.22-kWh Geely Aegis short blade LFP battery pack, which offers a WLTP-claimed range of 410 km. The Malaysian brand is taken care of by Ansa Motors in Trinidad and Tobago.

Honda recalls 87,490 cars in Malaysia

Honda has issued a recall notice for a total of 87,490 cars in Malaysia, including the City, Civic, Accord, HR-V, BR-V, CR-V, Jazz, and Odyssey. The automaker has mentioned two different issues for the recall, both are related to the fuel pump. The first issue concerns the fuel pump’s impeller, while the latter is related to its high pressure. Honda Malaysia will inform owners of the affected models via notification letters, and the cost of fuel pump replacement will be borne by the company.

Haval H6 HEV sets new ASEAN record in fuel endurance challenge

The Haval H6 HEV has achieved a new milestone in the nationwide fuel endurance challenge in Malaysia. The bold and electrified SUV covered a total distance of 1,242 km on a single tank and secured a spot in the ASEAN Records. It makes the H6 the first hybrid SUV in the ASEAN region to hit such a milestone through genuine, everyday usage. Priced at RM 139,800, the Malaysia-spec Haval H6 comes powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a two-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission.

New Denza showroom in Kuala Lumpur

Denza has expanded its footprint in Malaysia with the opening of a new showroom in Old Klang Road. It is a state-of-the-art, standalone facility incorporating a spacious display area, five fully equipped service bays, EV chargers, and a customer lounge. It represents the company’s vision for future mobility and premium service and sets a benchmark for automotive retail spaces in the country.

2025 Toyota SYI Outrun to be held in July

UMW Toyota Motor is set to bring back the Toyota Start Your Impossible (SYI) Outrun for 2025. This annual charity run will be held at Dataran Wawasan, Putrajaya, on Sunday, 27 July this year. It will feature a 21KM Half Marathon category, 5KM Fun Run and 10KM Competitive Run with a total cash prize of RM 138,000. Registrations are now open at Toyota's SYI Outrun website with fees ranging from RM 55 to RM 95.

Global automotive market: Key international launches and updates

Toyota bZ5 EV debuts in China 

Toyota has introduced a new mid-size electric coupe SUV, the bZ5, in the Chinese market. Built on the e-TNGA platform, it’s the brand’s third bZ (Beyond Zero) EV after the bZ3 and bZ4X. The new model is equipped with a BYD LFP Blade Battery battery pack available in two options - 65.28 kWh and 73.984 kWh, offering CLTC-rated driving ranges of 550 km and 630 km, respectively. The price ranges from CNY 129,800 (RM 76,712) to CNY 159,800 (RM 94,446).

Xpeng G7 SUV unveiled, became an instant hit 

Xpeng has expanded its lineup in the home market with the unveiling of the G7. It is an all-electric mid-size SUV incorporating several brand-first technologies, including a fully visual-based driver assistance system and an 87-inch AR-HUD system. Based on a rear-wheel-drive platform, the EV is offered in Max and Ultra trim, powered by 68.5 kWh or 80.8 kWh battery pack, providing a CLTC-rated range of up to 702 km. The Xpeng G7 opened for pre-orders at CNY 235,800 (RM 139,359) and received 10,000 bookings within 46 minutes of its official unveiling ceremony.

Chery nears milestone of 5 million vehicle exports

The automotive giant Chery is on track to become the first Chinese automaker to surpass 5 million cumulative vehicle exports by June 20. The company made this announcement at the 2025 International Automotive and Supply Chain Expo in Hong Kong, where it aims to launch vehicles later this year. It showcased 12 new energy vehicles across seven sub-brands, including Chery, Exeed, Jetour, iCAR, Luxeed, Omoda, and Jaecoo, as reported by CarNewsChina.

Apple has announced the updates for the Apple CarPlay smartphone mirroring tech at its recent Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). The system will benefit from new graphics and features later this year as part of the next major software update for the iPhone, iOS 26. Notably, it has skipped versions 19 to 25 and aligned all platforms with the “26” branding. It features a new design language called “Liquid Glass,” offering a unified, expressive, and glass-like interface across devices.
