XC60 becomes Volvo’s #1 car - 2.7M units sold globally

KUALA LUMPUR: Since its debut in 2008, the Volvo XC60 has continued to impress a wide range of drivers with its exceptional safety, build quality and a premium driving experience. And the numbers reflect exactly that success.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How much is the Volvo XC60?

The Volvo XC60 price ranges from RM 328,888 to RM 357,888 in Malaysia.
  • What makes the Volvo XC60 a perfect family car?

The Volvo XC60 stands out as a perfect family car with its spacious comfort, smart tech, top-notch safety, and eco-friendly hybrid options.
  • The XC60 has become the best-selling Volvo car of all time, surpassing the iconic Volvo 240 that has been the most popular choice for families all over the world for years. It established new benchmarks for what an estate car should be.

Well, the XC60 has now replaced the estate, which highlights the shift in what customers prefer. The Sweden-based automaker has sold 2.7 million units of the mid-size SUV so far. It combines Scandinavian design, SUV practicality, and cutting-edge safety features, presenting itself as a confident package, which is ideal for families.

“Growing up in Sweden in the 1980s, the Volvo 240 was the iconic family car – you could spot one in almost every driveway,” says Susanne Hägglund, head of Global Offer at Volvo Cars.

“Today the XC60 has taken over that position in two ways. Not only as the family favourite, but also becoming our all-time top-seller, which in itself is the ultimate proof point of a successful car,” she added.

Safety Legacy: From Volvo 240 to XC60

Volvo cars are widely known for its safety features and both the 240 and XC60 are no exception. Introduced in 1974, the Volvo 240 set new safety standards with systems like advanced crumple zones (front and rear), reinforced passenger safety cage, side-impact protection that evolved into SIPS (Side-Impact Protection System) and the world’s first Child Booster Cushion in 1978.

The Volvo XC60 has continued to introduce numerous advanced safety technologies, such as

    • City Safety (in 2008) – the world’s first standard low-speed automatic emergency braking system designed to help avoid or mitigate a collision at speeds up to 30 km/h.
    • Oncoming Lane Mitigation (in 2017) - the world’s first system capable of steering you back into your lane if you drift into oncoming traffic.

The XC60 also supports Volvo’s electrification goals by offering plug-in hybrid options to eco-conscious buyers. As per the automaker, around half of the distance covered by the latest plug-in hybrid Volvo cars globally is powered purely by electricity.
