BYD Seal 6 EV: Variants explained: Dynamic vs Premium – Which one should you choose?

BYD has caused a stir in the Malaysian electric vehicle industry by rolling out the Seal 6, the most affordable and largest C-segment EV sedan in the country, with a starting price of only RM 100k. 

This competitive price tag makes the Seal 6 EV an attractive option for buyers seeking an eco-friendly ride without compromising on comfort or technology. The EV is offered in two variants - Dynamic and Premium, which we are going to compare today, helping prospective buyers choose the best one for them.

The two variants of the new BYD EV have a price difference of almost RM 15k. Well, justifying this gap are the exclusive bits that customers get with the top-spec Seal 6 Premium variant.

Dimensions 

In terms of dimensions, the Dynamic and Premium variants are almost identical; they both measure 4,720 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, and have a wheelbase of 2,820 mm. 

These measurements make the new BYD EV the longest, tallest, and widest in the C-segment category, outpacing ICE counterparts such as the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, and Mazda 3 sedan. Thus, we can expect a stronger road presence and a roomier cabin with better legroom and headroom. 

The one dimension where the two Seal 6 variants are different is the Kerb weight; the BYD Seal 6 Dynamic measures 1780 kg, while the top-spec BYD Seal 6 Premium tips the scales at 1,800 kg. 

The luggage capacity remains the same for both trims, i.e. 460 litres at the rear and 65 litres at the front, which is waterproof and odour-resistant.

Drivetrain, range, and charging

Built on the automaker’s e-Platform 3.0 architecture, both variants of the BYD Seal 6 are powered by a single Rear Wheel Drive motor with different states of output. The RWD configuration, a rare feature in its class, promises balanced handling, dynamic responsiveness, and a premium sporty driving, claims the automaker. 

Feeding the e-motor is a BYD Blade Battery pack, considered as one of the world’s safest battery packs that has passed rigorous safety tests and is designed to maximise strength, range and life cycle.

As for charging, the automaker is offering complimentary solutions to the first 800 buyers. Owners of the BYD Seal 6 Dynamic are entitled to get a complimentary wall charger worth RM 3,288, while Seal 6 Premium buyers can enjoy the full RM 6,288 package, with options for both landed and high-rise residents.

Features

Coming to the feature kit, here we can find some notable differences between the two BYD Seal 6 variants. The Dynamic model is equipped with all-around LED exterior lights, 17-inch wheels, a 12.8-inch infotainment unit, synthetic leather seats, six airbags, advanced driver assistance systems, and all other essential bits, providing the passengers with a smooth riding experience.

Over and above these niceties, the Premium variant features larger 18-inch wheels, footwell lighting, a panoramic glass roof, a wireless smartphone charging pad, ventilated front passenger seats, and other premium touches.
