Proton launched the X70 in 2018, and it recently received a mild update, restricted to subtle styling updates and some new additions to the equipment list. Based on the Geely Boyue, the X70 is essentially a tailored version of Boyue, with changes made in tandem with the Malaysian market. As for the 2020 Proton X70 CKD is assembled locally, unlike the previous version which was sold as a CBU.

While the model receives styling tweaks on the outside, no major change has been made to the cabin as it carries over most of the elements from the pre-update version save for a few additions. The 2020 version of X70 is available in four variants including Standard 2WD, Executive 2WD, Premium 2WD and Premium 2WD X. Another significant change on the X70 is the new dual-clutch transmission which replaces the six-speed torque converter automatic tranny in the previous version. Speaking of 2020 Proton X70 CKD specs sheet, it consists of a single turbocharged unit, available only with a 2WD drivetrain.
