2021 Sales Report: Best selling cars in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The couple of past years were no less than a roller coaster ride for automotive companies around the world. From sales to production to everything in between and following were badly affected by the pandemic.

2021 was a year of recovery, however, compared to the previous year it witnessed a 4 percent decrease in the annual sales figure, which was also the lowest in the past 14 years. With so much going around, it intrigues us to find the status of the Malaysian market.

Guiding us through the process is the Car Industry Analysis’s 2021 Report. They have shared the information both brand and model wise via self-explanatory, info-graphics. The same charts can be seen below.

Malaysia’s best-selling cars in 2021

On top of the list sits Perodua Myvi that sold a total of 47,525 units, thus grabbing ‘the best-selling car of 2021’ title. Following the Myvi closely with 43,080 units delivered is the Perodua Axia. Next up in line is the Perodua Bezza with 42,698 units sold in 2021. Making it to the 4th spot is the Saga sedan with 41,785 units. Finally, breaking the national carmaker's trail is Toyota Vios/Yaris which closed its yearly sales at 37,539 units.

Other models from the national carmakers that made it to the top 10 list are - Proton X50 (6th spot with 27,962 units), Perodua Ativa (7th spot with 27,003 units), Proton X70 (10th spot with 15,932 units).

Malaysia’s best-selling car brand in 2021

Seeing the top 10 models sales, it is clear that Perodua, Proton, and Toyota occupied the top three places. Their total sales for the year landed at 190,283, 111,695, and 71,585units respectively.

Other non-national car makers that made it to the top 10 list are - Honda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Mazda, BMW, Isuzu, and Ford.
