All-new Mazda CX-5 to launch soon in Malaysia, bookings open from tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: Good news, for all those who have been waiting for the turbocharged Mazda CX-5 with a petrol powerplant. Bermaz, the official distributor of Mazda cars in Malaysia recently announced that the 2019 CX-5 model would be launched here soon. Also, interested individuals can place their booking for the car starting tomorrow, i.e., 4th Sep 2019.

Specifications of the car are not available yet. However, Bermaz did confirm that a SkyActiv-G 2.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo engine will power the new CX-5 variant. In the Japanese-spec model, the said mill makes a maximum power of 230 PS at 4,250 rpm along with a peak torque of 420 Nm at 2,000 rpm. The engine is coupled with a 6-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic transmission unit. Also, it will be an all-wheel-drive car.

Now, apart from the new variant, the remaining Mazda CX-5 lineup is expected to get a feature kit update as well. Using the Japanese-spec model as a reference point, the upcoming model is expected to get a windscreen-projected head-up display, a digital instrument cluster (like that in the latest Mazda 3), Apple CarPlay/Android Auto support, new climate control switchgear, and much more.

The second-gen Mazda CX-5 was first introduced in October 2017, and back then it was offered with two SkyActiv naturally-aspirated petrol engines - 2.0-litre and 2.5-litre along with a 2.2-litre SkyActiv-D diesel powerplant. Shortly after, the car was given a slight update in the form of an electric-powered tailgate that was made available in select trims.
