All-new Toyota Camry to steal the limelight at KLIMS 2024

KUALA LUMPUR: The much-anticipated Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show 2024 is just around the corner, bringing with it an exciting range of new car models. One of the prominent participants at the event is UMW Toyota, which will introduce not only the new Corolla Cross Hybrid facelift but also the all-new ninth-gen Camry.

The automaker recently shared details of the upgraded Corolla Cross Hybrid and has now begun teasing the new Camry on its social media handles.

UMW Toyota describes the upcoming Camry as the next evolution of this long-standing icon. The generation upgrade brings a fresh new look, feature-packed convenience, and re-tuned mechanicals to the table.

The ninth-gen Toyota Camry made its global debut in the US market in 2023, followed by its ASEAN debut in Singapore in August this year.

Dimensions

The latest model measures 4,920 mm (+35 mm) in length, 1,840 mm in width, and 1,455 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,825 mm. The boot capacity has increased to 500 litres.

Design

Designed by CALTY’s Newport Beach, California, and Ann Arbor, Michigan studios, the new Toyota Camry boasts a new hammerhead front fascia with slim LED headlights. The interior has a simpler design with a completely revamped horizontally styled dashboard.

Features

In terms of features, the upcoming sedan is expected to get LED fog lamps, LED tail lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch infotainment unit, wireless Apple CarPlay Android Auto, a 12.3-inch instrument panel, head-up display, 8-way powered front seats with ventilation function, three-zone climate control, leather upholstery, and a 360-degree camera.

Engine

Just like Singapore and Thailand, the Malaysia-spec Camry is likely to come with a hybrid drivetrain combining a 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated inline-four gasoline mill, an electric motor, and a lithium-ion battery. The said mill generates 88 PS at 6,000 rpm and 221 Nm of torque between 3,200 to 5,200 rpm while the motor is tuned to make 136 PS and 208 Nm. The combined system output is rated at 231 PS.

Further confirming the arrival of a hybrid drivetrain is the new Camry teaser showcasing the model under Toyota’s “Beyond Zero” banner, 

Safety

With safety as a top priority, the sedan is packed with eight airbags and several advanced driver-assistance systems such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, lane tracing assist, auto high beam, and traffic sign recognition.

Notably, the ninth-gen Camry recently received a 5-star rating from ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Program). It is a testament that the D-segment sedan offers robust protection for both occupants and vulnerable road users.
