Thanks to improvements in BMW’s eDrive technology and chassis upgrades, the new iX now delivers a WLTP range of up to 701 km (435 miles), making it one of the most efficient long-range EVs in its class.

BMW has also fine-tuned the power electronics, wheel bearings, and tyres to improve overall efficiency. The result? A boost of up to 60 km (37 miles) in range for the iX xDrive60, along with an 8% improvement in energy consumption under WLTP testing (depending on model and equipment).

With its mix of performance, tech, and efficiency, the 2025 BMW iX is shaping up to be an even stronger contender in the world of premium electric SUVs.

The first changes that iX fans should know about is that BMW has reshuffled the iX lineup for 2025, replacing some nomenclature to reflect its new capabilities.

The xDrive40 has been replaced by the new xDrive45, the xDrive60 takes over from the previous xDrive50, and the M70 xDrive steps in as the new high-performance flagship, replacing the M60.

Under the shell, BMW has introduced an improved inverter and retuned the drive system, boosting both power density and efficiency. This translates to longer driving range, with the xDrive60 now capable of up to 701 km (WLTP)—one of the best in its class.

Power figures have also taken a step up:

    • The xDrive45 delivers 408 PS, launching from 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds.
    • The xDrive60 pushes out 544 PS, delivering a 0-100km/h sprint in 4.6 seconds.
    • Sitting at the top, the M70 xDrive unleashes 659 PS, rocketing to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds—or 3.5 seconds with the rollout method.

Larger battery packs now provide even more energy storage:

    • The xDrive45 gets a 94.8 kWh battery.
    • The xDrive60 is fitted with a 109.1 kWh battery.
    • The M70 xDrive carries a 108.9 kWh battery.

Charging speeds have also improved, with DC fast charging now reaching up to 195 kW. This means a quick top-up from 10-80% in just 34-35 minutes—perfect for road trips and long-distance drives.

Now that we have the technical powertrain stuff covered, lets move on to its exterior and interior changes. Although at first it might not look like it, BMW has given the iX a fresh new face, featuring a redesigned adaptive LED headlamp setup in the brand’s latest look.

The kidney grille has also been updated, now featuring a self-healing polyurethane coating that can remove light scratches within 24 hours—a neat trick for everyday wear and tear.

For the first time, the M Sport package is available on the iX, bringing a more aggressive design with sportier front and rear bumpers, distinctive air intakes, and M light-alloy wheels.

Meanwhile, the top-spec M70 xDrive gets its own unique rear diffuser and an exclusive horizontal grille design for a meaner stance.

For those who want an even more striking look, the M Sport package Pro adds M Shadow Line lights and vertically arranged reflectors, further accentuating the iX’s dynamic styling.

Inside, the 2025 iX now runs BMW Operating System 8.5 with QuickSelect, making the infotainment experience smoother and more intuitive than before. The cabin also gets new customisation options, with three distinct themes:

    • Standard Atelier Package – Features Sensatec surfaces for a premium yet sustainable feel.
    • Loft & Suite Packages – Introduce gold bronze accents for an upscale touch.
    • Clear & Bold Package – Combines walnut wood trim and cut crystal controls for a luxurious finish.

The M Sport package isn’t just about the exterior—it also adds a round steering wheel, anthracite headliner, M pedals, and M-specific displays, bringing a sportier feel to the cabin.

Tech-wise, the Live Cockpit Professional setup is now standard, packing in a head-up display and Augmented View navigation. Connectivity gets a boost, too, with BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, Amazon Alexa integration, over-the-air (OTA) updates, Digital Key Plus, and an integrated eSIM.

Audiophiles can also opt for the optional 30-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system for an immersive sound experience.

    • Steering & lane centering assist
    • Traffic sign recognition with active speed limit assist

One of the biggest updates is the new Highway Assistant, offering Level 2+ hands-free driving at speeds of up to 130 km/h in select markets (Germany, US, Canada)—a step closer to full automation.

Parking tech has also been upgraded, with an improved Parking Assistant that now includes Reversing Assistant and the option to add Parking Assistant Professional via the BMW ConnectedDrive Store.

With its increased power, extended range, faster charging, and smarter tech, the 2025 BMW iX shows that BMW is constantly evolving in the EV landscape.
