BMW M4 50th Anniversary special edition reportedly in the works

KUALA LUMPUR: Created in 1972, BMW Motorsport or better known as BMW M is the brand’s motorsport segment dedicated to racing activities. The company is involved in making high-performance M cars and will mark its glorious 50 years of existence in May next year. To commemorate this occasion, BMW M has introduced a special badge for new M cars and showed off the first-ever M3 Touring and the electric-powered Concept XM. And, now it seems to unveil a new performance car to celebrate the milestone.

According to a Bimmerpost forum member, the brand will be introducing a new 50th Anniversary special edition model of the M4, which will mostly be configured “like the CSL.” For those who are unfamiliar with CSL, it stands for “Coupé Sport Lightweight” denoting the most hardcore versions of the BMW M models. The CSL cars miss out on several luxury appointments like comfort access, electric seats, and parking sensors.

Further, the report suggests that the hot coupe will come mated to a manual transmission instead of the eight-speed auto. As for the powertrain, there is no information whether it will get a 3.0-litre straight-six offering CSL-level power (547 PS) or not. 

Supposed to be a highly-exclusive model, the upcoming BMW M4 50th Anniversary special edition production is likely to be less than the M4 CSL, as per the reports.

Alongside rolling out a new emblem and 50th anniversary special editions, BMW M has also planned to revive 50 iconic and historically significant BMW M hues in 2022. Some of them are Fire Orange, Dakar Yellow, Macao Blue, Imola Red, Daytona Violet, and Frozen Marina Bay Blue.
