BMW Malaysia launches 2025 X5 xDrive40i M Sport - RM467k, Mild Hybrid in-line 6
KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Malaysia has introduced the updated 2025 BMW X5 xDrive40i M Sport, a locally assembled premium SUV that brings a refreshed design, enhanced performance, and smarter in-car technology to the brand’s popular SUV, or in BMW talk, Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV).
KEY TAKEAWAYS
How much more powerful is the new BMW X5 xDrive40i M Sport?
It now makes 381 hp and 540 Nm, up by 47 hp and 70 Nm from before, thanks to a 3.0L inline-six with 48V mild-hybrid tech. 0–100 km/h takes just 5.4 seconds. What new tech does the 2025 X5 offer?
The SUV gets BMW OS 8.5 with a curved dual-screen, gesture control, Digital Key Plus, and advanced ADAS including Driving Assistant and Parking Assistant Professional. While still recognisable as the X5, this locally assembled facelifted model delivers far more than just cosmetic changes. Priced from RM469,800 which excludes BMW's BSRI, this makes the X5 xDrive40i M Sport the most affordable X5 on the market today.
With BMW's BSRI, the price rises to RM508,200. The BMW Service & Repair Inclusive (BSRI) programme ensures peace of mind with a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty, along with 5 years / 100,000km of service coverage.

From the outside, the X5 now wears a more aggressive front fascia, led by a bold illuminated Iconic Glow kidney grille. The headlights have been redesigned and slimmed down by 35 mm, giving the SUV a more athletic appearance.
The daytime running lights now adopt an X-shaped signature that finishes in outward-pointing arrows, visually broadening the stance of the vehicle.
The front apron has also been updated, featuring triangular air intakes and vertically arranged Air Curtains to improve aerodynamic efficiency and visual drama.
At the rear, the taillights have been reshaped with a more sculptural, three-dimensional look, also featuring the X motif to match the front.
Completing the M Sport package are staggered 21-inch V-spoke M light alloy wheels finished in a two-tone look, complemented by blue-painted M Sport brakes. Satin aluminium trim on the roof rails and gloss black accents across the B-pillars and window surrounds give the X5 a sharp, athletic profile.
Inside, BMW has significantly modernised the cabin. The centrepiece is the BMW Curved Display, which combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch control touchscreen into one seamless panel. It runs on the latest BMW Operating System 8.5, offering touch, voice, iDrive controller and optional Gesture Control inputs.
A Light Bar now stretches across the dashboard, adding a layer of visual refinement, while the control surfaces beneath the centre screen are more minimalist and touch-sensitive. The traditional gear lever has been replaced with a sleeker rocker-style selector on a redesigned centre console.
Upholstery is now standard in Black Sensafin, a high-grade synthetic material that mimics the look and feel of leather. Both front occupants get electric sport seats with memory function, while the driver grips a premium M leather steering wheel.
Other creature comforts include a panoramic glass roof, four-zone automatic air-conditioning, velour floor mats, a wireless charging tray, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system. Rear side windows also come with built-in roller sunblinds for added privacy.
Under the hood, the X5 now features an updated version of BMW’s renowned 3.0-litre inline-six petrol engine. Now paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system, the powertrain produces 381 hp (280 kW) and 540 Nm of torque — an increase of 47 hp and 70 Nm over the outgoing model.
The enhanced engine benefits from revisions to the combustion process, camshaft control, ignition, and exhaust systems, as well as BMW’s latest VALVETRONIC variable valve timing, which reduces internal drag and improves regenerative efficiency.
Power is transmitted via an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission to all four wheels through BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system. This setup enables the X5 to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds, on its way to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.
As always, BMW hasn’t forgotten about handling either. The suspension setup consists of a double wishbone front and a five-link rear, assisted by Dynamic Damper Control and adaptive two-axle air suspension. In Sport mode, the body lowers by 20 mm at speeds above 138 km/h to improve stability, while in off-road scenarios it can be raised by up to 40 mm. The driver can also lower the SUV by 40 mm at the touch of a button for easier loading.
On the safety and assistance front, the 2025 X5 comes equipped with BMW’s Driving Assistant Professional and Parking Assistant Professional systems as standard. These include features such as Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Lane Keeping Assistant with side collision avoidance, Lane Change Assistant, Intersection Warning with City Braking, front cross-traffic alert, and Emergency Stop Assistant. Automatic Speed Limit Assist and Evasion Assistant are also part of the suite.
For parking, the X5 offers automatic parallel and perpendicular parking, Active Park Distance Control, lateral guidance, a Surround View camera system with Remote 3D View, and a Reversing Assistant that can retrace previously driven paths up to 198 metres — all of which can also be activated via smartphone using the Manoeuvring Assistant function.
Connectivity and infotainment have been significantly upgraded too. The BMW Operating System 8.5 supports real-time widgets, voice control through the Intelligent Personal Assistant, and OTA software updates.
The BMW Head-Up Display is included as standard, projecting key driving information onto the windscreen. With the Comfort Access system, BMW Digital Key Plus now allows drivers to unlock, lock, and start the vehicle using a smartphone or smartwatch without needing to remove it from their pocket.
The new X5 is available in four exterior colours: Mineral White, Black Sapphire, Brooklyn Grey, and Skyscraper Grey. All models feature the same black Sensafin interior with décor stitching and Fineline Black wood trim with metal-effect highlights.
Buyers of the 2025 BMW X5 xDrive40i M Sport will also benefit from BMW Malaysia’s “Relax. We Care.” aftersales program. This includes a five-year, unlimited mileage warranty, five years or 100,000 km of free scheduled servicing, 24/7 roadside assistance, and remote diagnostics through the My BMW App.
For electric and hybrid BMWs, the service package extends up to six years with an eight-year battery warranty.
With this latest update, the X5 continues to be a benchmark for the luxury SUV class in Malaysia — now with sharper design, more intelligent tech, and a stronger heart under the bonnet.
