Bookings open for Chery TIGGO 7 PHEV and TIGGO 8 PHEV in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Chery Malaysia has officially opened bookings for its new plug-in hybrid SUVs, the TIGGO 7 PHEV and TIGGO 8 PHEV, at all authorised showrooms and through the company’s website. The announcement marks the brand’s first entry into Malaysia’s plug-in hybrid segment.

Two New Plug-In Hybrid SUVs

The TIGGO 7 PHEV and TIGGO 8 PHEV are the first models here to feature Chery’s Super Hybrid (CSH) technology, combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with a dedicated hybrid transmission and an 18.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. Together, the system offers up to 90 km of pure EV driving and a claimed combined range of 1,200 km when using both petrol and electric power.

Both SUVs can be charged quickly, with the battery supporting 30% to 80% charging in about 19 minutes, while safety is managed by Chery’s Guardian Battery Safety System — including IP68 dust and water resistance, automatic high-voltage cutoff in the event of an accident, and a 500 mm wading depth for flood-prone roads.

Aligned with Malaysia’s new energy vehicle push

Chery Malaysia says the launch comes in support of national efforts to accelerate electrified mobility under the National Automotive Policy (NAP), the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030).

“Chery Malaysia is proud to introduce the TIGGO 7 PHEV and TIGGO 8 PHEV to the Malaysian market, powered by our cutting-edge Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) technology. These models deliver class-leading range, safety, and performance. We believe both vehicle models will set a new standard for plug-in hybrid SUVs in Malaysia,” said Lee Wen Hsiang, Vice President, Chery Auto Malaysia.

Chery’s push into electrified mobility in Malaysia isn’t limited to these new plug-in hybrids. The company introduced the Omoda E5, its first fully electric SUV for the local market in 2024.

Built on a dedicated EV platform, the Omoda E5 delivers a driving range of more than 400 km on a single charge and comes equipped with advanced driver assistance features, positioning it as a more affordable entry point into EV ownership.

The brand has also launched the TIGGO Cross Hybrid, a petrol-electric option aimed at customers who want better efficiency without the need for external charging.

Together with the upcoming TIGGO 7 PHEV and TIGGO 8 PHEV, these models highlight Chery’s multi-path strategy for new energy vehicles — offering Malaysians a mix of hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric choices to suit different driving needs and lifestyles.
