Chery x Lewandowski lands in Malaysia with Gempak Bola roadshow at Sunway Pyramid

KUALA LUMPUR: If you're heading to Sunway Pyramid between 8 and 12 July, Chery Malaysia is running its Gempak Bola roadshow at the Orange Concourse from 10am to 10pm.

Yes, that Lewandowski. The Polish striker is Chery's global brand ambassador, and with football fever running high at the moment, the brand is leaning into it hard.

Chery has been organising football viewing parties and community events across its markets, from Europe to Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America, working through its local subsidiaries and dealer networks to get families and fans watching matches together.

Lewandowski's face is attached to the Tiggo 9, Chery's flagship seven-seater SUV that went on sale in Malaysia last month from RM166,800 for the Flexi package, or RM179,800 for the Prime package with extra early bird sweeteners. That puts it up against the likes of the Mazda CX-8, Hyundai Santa Fe and its own cousins, the Jaecoo J8 and Omoda C9.

The comfort spec is genuinely strong for the money. Both front seats get massage functions, and ventilated seats are fitted to the first and second rows, which counts for a lot in Malaysian heat. On the safety side, there are 10 airbags and an ADAS 2.5 driver assistance suite with 23 features covering both active and passive protection.

Chery is one of China's biggest car exporters, with a presence in more than 120 countries, eight global R&D centres, 36 production bases, over 2,000 dealerships and more than 1,800 service centres worldwide.

The Lewandowski partnership is part of the brand's push to be seen as more than a value play in markets like Malaysia, where football remains one of the most followed sports in the country.

If you're already shopping in the seven-seater SUV space, the free jersey probably won't swing your decision. But if a Chery was on your shortlist anyway, this week at Sunway Pyramid is as good a time as any to put a booking down.
