Honda Malaysia records 51% growth in 2022, City remains the best-selling model

KUALA LUMPUR: Just like Proton and Perodua, non-national automakers in Malaysia also ended the year 2022 on a positive note. Here, we have Honda Malaysia’s yearly sales results which reveal that the Japanese automaker sold over 80,200 cars in 2022. The brand surpassed its target of 80,000 units with a year-on-year growth of 51% over the previous year.

    Dissecting Honda sales on the basis of regions, 51% of units sold in the central region, while Southern and Northern regions chipped in 19% and 17%, respectively. When it comes to model-wise performance, the top three performers are -

    While the new Civic does not get a place in the top three positions, the performance of the sedan cannot be overlooked as it contributed the strongest per-month sales figure in March, which was the best-performing month with more than 10,500 units sold.

    “2022 was a challenging year with global chip shortage and flood disasters that have affected our car production. With ‘Challenging Spirit’ we shifted into higher gears in 2022 and exceeded our sales target with the strong support from all the stakeholders,” said HM’s MD and CEO Hironobu Yoshimura. 

    “We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our customers and dealers for their unwavering support towards the Honda brand, as well as the Malaysian government for the extension of sales tax exemption. HM values our customers, and we will continue to strive to enhance customer satisfaction. We are working closely with suppliers and dealers to ensure timely delivery for customers, especially those who booked their cars during the sales tax exemption period,” he added.
