KLIMS 2018 Key Highlights - Check out all that is showcased

After five years, the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show has finally opened its gates for auto-makers, enthusiasts, and prospective buyers. The show officially begins from tomorrow, i.e., 23rd November 2018. Today, however, is the preview day, an exclusive chance for a select few to see what’s all on offer. So, here’s bringing you the KLIMS 2018 menu, more items (both four and two-wheeled) are expected to add in coming days. Stay tuned with Zigwheels for the latest update on the auto show.

Now before we start, here are a few things you must know about the 9th edition of KLIMS -

  • The venue for the KLIMS 2018 is the newly opened Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre
  • Show timings are 11 am to 10 pm (Mon - Friday), and 10 am to 11 pm (weekends)
  • Visitors will be required to purchase entry ticket, prices for which starts from RM 5

Cars that’ll meet you at Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show -

1. Mitsubishi Triton

Earlier this month we informed you about the arrival of the all-new Mitsubishi Triton in Thailand. The updated pickup is now at KLIMS and is open for bookings. The launch is scheduled for Q1 of 2019. The new Triton will run on a 4N15 2.4-litre MIVEC turbo diesel engine that is mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Though Triton price is not revealed yet, it is expected to range within RM 100k to 140k. The pickup is loaded with advanced utility and safety features. Also, both on the outside and inside it reflects a premium image.

2. Honda HR-V RS

Only a few months back Honda Malaysia previewed the facelifted HR-V RS variant. Back then Honda kept the cabin hidden, all blackened, however, it gets the light of the day at KLIMS. Standing in style at the Honda podium is the new HR-V RS. The exterior design of the SUV is flashy and immediately catches attention. It gets dark contrast elements like black chrome license garnish, dark chrome door handles, tube-type LED lights, two-tone 18-inch wheels, and new splash called Passion Red Pearl.
The inside is equally attractive with its grey and dark grey theme and number of added amenities. More of which will be revealed at its launch in near future.

3. New Kia Cerato

One of the most alluring displays of all is the new Kia Cerato. The sedan now in its third-generation made its global debut in January at Detroit. In comparison to the second-gen model, this one is significantly bigger. It measures 4,640 mm in length, 1,798 mm in width, and 1,440 mm in height. The boot space is also extended and now stands at 428-litre. The engine and cabin were kept hidden with no information available at the moment. On the outside the car features brand’s revised tiger nose grille, headlamps with four-point LED DRLs, stylish taillights, and 16-inch five-spoke alloy wheels.

4. Ford Ranger Raptor

 

The wait is finally over, Malaysia has its very on Ford Ranger Raptor. The most stylish and potent of the 2018 Ranger gang, the Raptor has been launched in the country and is on show at the KLIMS 2018. Under the wide hood rests a 2.0-litre EcoBlue twin-turbo four-cylinder that punches out 213 PS of power and 500 Nm of torque. The diesel mill is paired with a Getrag 10R80 10-speed automatic gearbox. Priced at RM 199,888 the Ranger Raptor showcases a great deal of off-road capabilities, luxury and styling elements. The safety front is guarded by many high-tech specs like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, stability control, ABS with EBD, six airbags, and more.

5. Honda CR-V and Jazz Mugen Concept

At the KLIMS 2018, Honda Malaysia has put on display two all-red Mugen concept of the CR-V and Jazz. The Jazz Mugen concept comes with a 1.5-litre Turbo mill. In terms of styling, the front showcases a Mugen body kit with lower body colored bumper extensions and a rear Mugen badge.

The CR-V, on the other hand, showcases no mechanical change and rides on the same set of 18-inch alloy wheels as the standard car. At the Honda podium, it stands covered in the new Passion Red Pearl shade that is rumoured to make its way in the SUV series.

6. New Lexus ES 250

At the ongoing KLIMS 2018, Lexus has on display two attractive vehicles - the EX and UX. Talking about the former, the Lexus ES was showcased in the ES 250 guise which hints towards its soon launch. The car, now in its seventh-gen displays a new sportier design and rides on the modular Global Architecture - K. It is powered by the new 2.5-litre Dynamic Force direct-injected four-cylinder mill that makes 205 PS and 243 Nm. This petrol mill is coupled with an 8-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission. The car also features a ton of safety specs, a large 12.3-inch infotainment system, a heads-up display, etc.

7. Perodua X-Concept

Tagged as ‘The Perodua of Tomorrow,’ the X-Concept is the show stopper at the KLIMS 2018. The Perodua X-Concept displays a futuristic design and shouts for a global presence. At the front, the five-door hatch gets LED headlamps that run through the grille and oversized side intakes. The side profile gets suicide doors, massive wheels, flush door handles, and tiny wing mirrors. The rear too is a sight to enjoy with those stylish taillights and extended stop lamp. The X-factor is spilling all over the new Perodua concept. A must see at the auto show.

8. 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe

 

All-new Hyundai Santa Fe made its debut at the 2018 KLIMS. The seven-seater SUV gets a complete overhaul concerning design which now looks a bit edgy and futuristic. The front profile looks like is borrowed from the Kona concept especially with those LED DRLs. The cascading grille makes a comeback with 2019 Santa Fe and is now bigger and features prominent inlay. The side and the rear profile are equally attractive with elements like new taillights, bolder lower apron, creased doors and reshaped windows. The new Santa Fe is available in two choices of engines - 2.2 R CRDi and 2.4-litre Theta II MPi.

9. New Toyota Camry

UMW Toyota Motors officially launched 2019 Camry at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show. The 8th gen Camry is priced at RM 189,900 and is one variant option - 2.5V. The new Camry is now stretched, it measures 4,885 mm in length, 1,840 mm in width, and 1,455 mm in height. Under the hood is a 2AR-FE, 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine that churns out 184 PS and 235 Nm of torque. The transmission duty is handed to a six-speed automatic unit. The 2019 Camry is available in six color options - Silver Metallic, Red Mica, Platinum White, Pearl Mica, Burning Black, and Graphite Metallic.

10. New Toyota Vios

 

Toyota Malaysia previewed the all-new Vios at the 2018 Kuala Lumper International Motor Show. Only a few days back, the Japanese auto brand hinted about the new Vios arrival on its social media handle. In the Malaysian market the Vios will be available in three variants - 1.5 J (RM 77,200), 1.5 E (RM 81,200), and 1.5 G (RM 87,300). The 2019 Vios source its power from a 2NR-FE 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i four-cylinder mill. This motor is paired with a CVT unit and makes 107 PS and 140 Nm. It is offered in five vibrant shades - Super White II, Red Metallic, Dark Blue Metallic, Silver Metallic, and Attitude Black.

11. Perodua Myvi GT

The Perodua Myvi GT is an eye-catching sports concept with aggressive looks. The front displays a wide bumper with full mesh treatment, a prominent red splitter, and LED daytime running lamp. The side gets 17-inch Y-spoke gunmetal wheels, prominent fenders, and a chrome strip running above the door handles. The rear end of the concept features bold taillights, twin exhaust pipes, and a F1-style brake light. The cabin is all-black with red trim running around which further enhances the sporty aura.

12. Proton X70

Proton X70, the soon to be launched SUV is on display at the 2018 KLIMS. Enough has already been said about the car, with all the information from its design to engine to color options out in the open. The X70 will be launched on the 12the of December 2018. Now, what’s left to be known is its price tag which will be revealed soon enough.

13. Hyundai Kona Electric

Displaying Hyundai’s eco-friendly wing at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2018 is the new Kona compact SUV. Sitting below the Tucson and Santa Fe, the Kona sports a bold design and from a few angles reminds us of the Citroen C4 Cactus. Though the Kona is available in a couple of engine tuning globally, the one on show at the KLIMS is an EV. It packs a 64 kWh battery that claims a range of up to 482 km. The performance figures read 204 PS of power along with a maximum torque of 395 Nm. The Electric Kona can touch the 100 kmph mark in 7.6 seconds. Hyundai is also offering a basic version of the Kona that is powered by a 39.3 kWh battery. Though the Kona Electric won’t make it to the Malaysia market any time soon and its presence at the KLIMS is a little technological showcase. The combustion engine Kona is expected to arrive in Q2 of 2019.

14. Lexus UX

Along with the ES, the Lexus UX also previewed at the ongoing auto show. Showcased was a left-hand drive model with UX 200 guise. The design work resembled one seen on the Mercedes-Benz GLA and BMW X1. Powering the Lexus UX is a 2.0-litre Dynamic Force direct-injected naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol mill. This motor makes 170 PS of power and 205 Nm of torque, and it is paired with a 10-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission. Included in the UX package is Lexus Safety System+ suite, 10.25-inch freestanding centre display, Sashiko leather quilting, AC knobs with wireless lighting, and more.

15. Nissan Leaf

As promised by Nissan, the brand displayed the second-gen Leaf at the 2018 KLIMS. The launch is expected to take place in Q2 of 2019. The company claims that the new Leaf offers better performance than the current on-sale Leaf. The new Nissan EV now features an EM57 electric motor that generates 149 PS and 320 Nm. The car also features an enhanced NEDC, i.e., the New European Driving Cycle from 195 km to 378 km. The 2019 Leaf comes with advanced features like ProPILOT single-lane autonomous driving tech, Nissan Safety Shield, and an e-Pedal. Nissan claims that the new Leaf can be charged in 16 and 8 hours with a 3kW and 6kW source, respectively.

16. Hyundai i30 N

Hyundai-Sime Darby Malaysia showcased the i30 N at the ongoing Kuala Lumpur International Auto Show. The Hyundai i30 N is the product of the company’s N sub-brand that’s committed to performance-based vehicles. When launched (pretty soon we believe), the i30 N will compete with the likes of Volkswagen Golf GTI and Focus ST. It is powered by 2.0-litre Theta T-GDI turbo twin-can E-CVVT motor. The maximum power output is 250 PS along with a peak torque of 353 Nm. However, the one on display at the auto show has an add-on performance package that increases the figures to 279 PS. The six-speed manual transmission delivers power to the front wheels. The i30 N can cover 0-100 kmph mark in 6.1 seconds and displays a top speed of 250 kmph.

17. Hyundai Accent

5th Generation Hyundai Accent

The fifth-gen Accent is on display at the KLIMS 2018. The compact sedan made its global debut in 2017 at the Canadian International Auto Show and now it is finally in Malaysia. Though it's still not launched in the country, if it does, it’ll go against the Vios, Mazda 2 Sedan, and Honda City. A lot of its design aspects matches the sixth-gen Elantra with all most identical grille, headlamps, and taillights. The Accent on display sources its power from a 1.4-litre Kappa MPI four-cylinder engine that churns 100 PS and 132 Nm. Power is sent down to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox.
