Laos becomes the second ASEAN country to get the all-new Toyota Vios

KUALA LUMPUR: The entire automobile industry is excited over the all-new 2023 Toyota Vios. And now after Thailand, Laos has become the second ASEAN market to enjoy the brand’s latest sedan.

Since Laos is a left-hand market it becomes the first such market for the new Vios. Moreover, unlike in Thailand where it is called Yaris Ativ in Laos, it is sold as the 2023 Vios.

 

Powering the Laos-spec Vios is a 1.3-litre four-cylinder power plant generating maximum power of 98 hp along with a peak torque of 122 Nm. The dive is sent to the wheels either via a CVT or a 5-speed manual transmission.

In comparison, the Thai-spec model is driven by a 1.2-litre Dual VVT-iE unit making a maximum output of 94 hp and 110 Nm. The power is transmitted to the ground with a Super CVT-i gearbox.

Another major difference between the Thai and Laos-spec Vios is the wheels. While both get 16-inch alloys wrapped in 195/60R16 tyres, the former gets straight spoke alloys the latter comes with slanted spokes.

As for the Malaysian market, we are still waiting for the new Vios, however, there is no official word from the automaker on the sedan’s arrival.
