Manual Perodua Axia version will live on; to serve driving schools & private owners

KUALA LUMPUR: The 2023 Perodua Axia launch was no less than a treat to the eyes, the car showcased several improvements over the previous-gen model, accompanied by a fully-justified price hike. However, what many thought missing was a manual model amidst the four automatic versions.

So, the big question that popped up in many minds was will there be a manual Axia? The answer is YES!

A manual base version of the Axia will still be made available, but it won’t feature a DNGA body like the automatic units. Called the Perodua Axia E, the model will continue to serve driving schools as well as private owners.

Also, called the ‘Kosong Spec’ Axia, the car is probably driven by most young drivers during the car learning phase and so is the reason for its nickname. Tagged as the most affordable car in the market, and will fulfill the requirements of the brand’s diverse income-level customers.

The Axia E misses out on some features like - central locking, a tachometer, a head unit, and a rear windscreen. One of its most distinguishing features is the 14-inch steel wheels.

Powering the Axia E is the same 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine found in other versions of the car as well. The mill makes a maximum power of 67 hp along with a peak torque of 91 Nm. The power is sent to the wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission.

During the launch event, Perodua announced that the price and specs of the Axia E will be announced at a later date, thus hinting at a few enhancements over the previous-gen model.
