Perodua QV-E price cut in Malaysia: now from RM63,499

KUALA LUMPUR: Perodua has dropped the price of the QV-E, its first electric vehicle, after pushing through a bigger localisation effort on the manufacturing side.

The savings are going straight to buyers in Malaysia, and current owners on the Battery as a Service (BAAS) plan are getting a lower monthly bill too.

When the QV-E launched in December last year, it came in at RM80,000 on the road without insurance, and that didn't even include the battery. Owners had to lease the battery separately through BAAS at RM275 a month over nine years. That's changed now, and by a fair bit.

According to Perodua President and CEO Dato' Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, the savings come down to how much of the QV-E Perodua and its vendors can now build domestically.

"Perodua and its local vendors have been able to manufacture a significant number of parts locally, and this means that we can further protect local jobs while be less dependent on foreign technology and supply chains," he said.

"This development is important as we can now build a more resilient inventory of spare parts – especially the car body parts – to ensure that customers can rely on readily available domestically produced items when they need it," he added.

Production has scaled up too. Perodua says it's now turning out more than 500 units of the QV-E a month.

"Due to localisation, we are able to further optimise our operations, and we are now sharing those benefits with our valued customers," Dato' Sri Zainal said.

Here's where the new pricing lands. Standard pricing going forward is RM93,999 to own the QV-E outright (car and battery together), or RM69,999 for the car with the battery on a BAAS lease at RM215 a month including tax, over nine years.

Perodua isn't stopping there, though. With cost of living pressures in mind, it's running a limited time promo on top of that, effective immediately.

"The new price for the QV-E will be RM93,999 to own outright or RM69,999 plus a monthly RM215 (with tax) Battery as a Service (BAAS) package (for 9 years)," Dato' Sri Zainal said. "However, for a limited time, we will introduce a special price (effective immediately) to help with the increase in the cost of living."

That promo brings the QV-E down to RM87,499 outright, or RM63,499 with the RM215 monthly BAAS package. It runs until 30 September 2026.

On the BAAS side, the package covers the battery for the full nine-year term, including damage protection, disposal and replacement when needed, and insurance. The idea is that Perodua takes the battery headache off your hands entirely for as long as you own the car.

If you'd rather skip the lease and own the battery outright, Perodua's got an answer for what happens down the line too.

"For those who wants to buy the QV-E on outright purchase, Perodua does offer to buy the battery when comes the time to dispose of it (the battery)," Dato' Sri Zainal said.

On the spec sheet, the QV-E carries a 5-star ASEAN-NCAP rating and runs on a 52.5kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate battery, good for up to 445km on the NEDC cycle depending on driving style, temperature and road conditions. Perodua reckons the car suits steady mid-to-long distance driving better than constant short hops and frequent top-ups, which helps the battery last longer.

Existing QV-E owners aren't left out either. Perodua says they'll get a special refund, with sales advisors reaching out individually soon, and their monthly BAAS fee drops from RM275 to RM215 starting the next billing cycle.

The new pricing puts the QV-E in an interesting spot for Malaysian buyers. At RM63,499 with BAAS, it's now within striking distance of the Proton e.MAS 5's RM59,800 starting price, and well under what BYD's Dolphin asks for, which starts above RM100,000. For anyone shopping on price alone, the QV-E just got a lot harder to ignore.
