MGS5 EV local assembly begins in Malaysia; CKD model bookings open, est price RM 120k

KUALA LUMPUR: SAIC Motor has rolled out the first-ever locally assembled model in Malaysia, the MGS5 EV LUX, starting a new chapter for MG in the country. The first CKD unit rolled off the assembly line at EP Manufacturing Berhad (EPMB) facility in Melaka earlier this morning. 

New MGS5 CKD bookings now open 

Bookings for the CKD MG S5 EV are now open in Malaysia, bringing some significant updates to the table over the outgoing CBU version launched in May last year. The expected price tag reads RM 120,000, which is almost RM 8,000 less than the reduced price of the imported EV announced in October 2025. 

MGS5 CKD: What’s new?

The upcoming version of the EV will offer extra power and torque. Powered by a rear-mounted electric motor, the MGS5 EV now produces up to 202 hp and 350 Nm of torque, which is 34 hp and 100 Nm more than the CBU counterpart. While battery specs are not yet confirmed, the automaker confirmed a cruising range of 446 km, slightly higher than before. 

Inside the upgraded LUX variant, customers will get ventilated seats and a Power Front Passenger Seat. 

New MGS5 CKD Early Bird Promo 

SAIC Motor Malaysia has rolled out an exciting early bird promotion for the EV, worth up to RM 10,000. The package includes - 

• RM 7,000 rebate
• A complimentary 7kW wallbox charger worth RM 2,000 
• Free charging credits worth RM 1,000
