New turbocharged Volvo S90 T5 Momentum available at RM 339,888

KUALA LUMPUR: The S90 T5 Momentum, Volvo’s range-topping sedan, was formerly marketed solely as the T8 Twin Engine PHEV in Malaysia. Now, a more straightforward option is available for those who are not a big fan of plug-in hybrids. The locally-assembled revised Volvo S90 T5 Momentum is precisely priced at RM 338,888, on-the-road without insurance and a five year or 120,000 km of warranty.

The flagship sedan is packed with a 2.0-litre turbocharged Drive-E four-cylinder motor, coupled with an Aisin eight-speed automatic transmission with an FWD drivetrain. It generates a maximum power of 254 PS and delivers a peak torque of 350 Nm between 1,500 and 4,800 rpm. The vehicle is capable of sprinting from 0-100 kmph in just 6.8 seconds. The fuel consumption is claimed to be around 14.2 kmpl.

In terms of the external design, the S90 T5 Momentum ditches most of its chrome trim on the outside, like on the lower end portion of the doors and front side intakes. Plain-looking round-shaped exhaust tips replace the trapezoidal exhaust vents and chrome bridge. It features LED headlights accompanied by the signature “Thor’s Hammer” DRLs, active bending lights, and active high beam. The kerb weight reads 1,716 kgs. The sedan is available in six color options including Bright Silver, Crystal White, Maple Brown, Mussel Blue, Onyx Black, and Luminous Sand.

Inside the cabin, the S90 T5 portrays a neat look. The black-colored leather upholstery, leather-wrapped gear-lever, and less ornamentation reflect a more serious and dark ambience. The entry-level models come standard with dual-zone climate control system, powered front seats, power folding rear headrests, dual-stage kids booster cushions, B-pillar rear air-conditioning outlets and a reverse camera.

Attempts have been made to make it techno-savvy by packing the interior suitably with an arc-shaped engine start knob, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, a nine-inch vertical touchscreen on the dashboard with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and audio streaming facilities. The long-listed sophisticated safety additions include are lane departure warning, blind spot information system, steer assist, 7 airbags, adaptive cruise control, and distance alert to name a few.
