Proton e.MAS 5 hits the road for nationwide preview tour ahead of official launch
KUALA LUMPUR: Proton New Energy Technology (PRO-NET), the EV-focused subsidiary of Proton, has launched the MISI 5 Tour — a cross-country roadshow that previews the upcoming Proton e.MAS 5, an electric vehicle positioned to be Malaysia’s most affordable entry into the EV world.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
When is the Proton e.MAS 5 officially launching in Malaysia?
The Proton e.MAS 5 is expected to launch officially after the MISI 5 Tour wraps up in October 2025.Where can I see the Proton e.MAS 5 in person before it launches?
You can catch the car at tourist spots and Proton e.MAS dealerships during the MISI 5 Tour, starting 9 August in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.Running from August to October 2025, the tour will take the e.MAS 5 through five major regions across Peninsular and East Malaysia, offering Malaysians a close-up look at the brand’s second EV offering before it officially hits showrooms later this year.

The Proton e.MAS 5 is being framed as an everyday EV for first-time electric car owners, young professionals, and families — a more compact and accessible alternative to the larger e.MAS 7, which currently holds the title as Malaysia’s best-selling EV.
“The Proton e.MAS 7 is already the best-selling EV in Malaysia to date, and we believe the best way to build trust and momentum with our soon-to-be launched Proton e.MAS 5, is through hands-on experience,” said PRO-NET CEO Zhang Qiang.
“With the MISI 5 Tour, Malaysians will get the chance to see the Proton e.MAS 5 up close, learn more about the car from product experts, as well as meet popular influencers.”Photo from Proton
The roadshow isn’t limited to Proton e.MAS dealerships — it’ll also make stops at tourist hotspots in each region to increase visibility and foot traffic.
These static showcases will let the public inspect the e.MAS 5’s design, interior packaging, and features without having to wait until the official launch. According to PRO-NET, the idea is to show how the car slots into typical Malaysian lifestyles.
EV lifestyle
Designed with urban dwellers in mind, the Proton e.MAS 5 comes equipped with features aimed at simplifying daily routines. Expect things like pre-conditioning (to cool the cabin before you get in), real-time charge planning, and enough boot space for gym bags, groceries, or school gear. It also boasts a fast charging setup that can recharge the battery to 80% in under an hour — fast enough to do it over lunch.
What PRO-NET is really trying to sell here is the e.MAS 5’s usability — not just its range or battery size. “Whether it’s fitting a stroller and a week’s worth of shopping, or gliding through city traffic stress-free, the Proton e.MAS 5 supports real routines, not just spec sheets,” the brand said.

In a bid to make the tour feel more personal, PRO-NET is roping in local personalities across each region to highlight the EV’s practicality in different lifestyle scenarios:
-
Central: Fashion designer and TV host Karl Shafek turns the e.MAS 5 into a mobile makeup studio during KL Fashion Week.
-
South: Cultural explorer Johan Eskandar hits heritage stops — with his pet cat in tow.
-
North: Food content creator Soyabelacan whips up dishes directly from the e.MAS 5’s frunk.
-
East Coast: Mural artist Zameer Pentbrush uses the car as a mobile canvas for live painting.
-
East Malaysia: Content creator Ain Ramli hosts a haunted livestream inside the e.MAS 5 using only the vehicle’s power.
Each regional stop aims to show off the versatility of the car while tapping into interests Malaysians can relate to — fashion, food, art, culture, and thrill-seeking content.
