Proton introduces Malaysia’s first localised connected mobility platform

KUALA LUMPUR: As demand for e.MAS EVs continues to grow, Proton continues to make efforts to strengthen Malaysia’s electric vehicle ecosystem. PRO-NET, a wholly owned subsidiary of PROTON Holdings Berhad, has now introduced the country’s first localised connected mobility platform.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is Proton e.MAS’s new mobility platform?

It is Malaysia’s first localised connected mobility platform, specifically developed for local EV users. It focuses on hosting vehicle data locally, vehicle connectivity services, smart digital features, integration with local charging networks, and features tailored to local driving conditions and users.
  • Why is it important for Malaysia?

It supports the growth of Malaysia’s EV ecosystem and contributes to the government's aspiration to accelerate EV adoption and strengthen the country’s mobility ecosystem.
  • Aligned with the government's National Automotive Policy 2020, National Energy Transition Roadmap, and automotive localisation agenda, this initiative includes the localisation of digital infrastructure, connected mobility services, and the charging platform.

The company is expanding its localisation efforts beyond vehicle manufacturing to offer a more seamless, practical, and accessible EV ownership experience.

Touted as Malaysia’s first self-developed vehicle connectivity platform, this initiative aims to provide seamless connectivity between EV users, mobile applications, charging providers, and vehicle systems. Proton e.MAS is part of a broader connected vehicle ecosystem that serves more than 300,000 vehicles, including the brand’s ICE vehicles.

Notably, Proton e.MAS is the only company that has achieved a fully local supply chain for cockpit equipment, with its localised infotainment hardware manufactured in Malaysia.

Speaking on the localisation effort, Mr. Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET, said: “Proton e.MAS is committed to building a complete connected mobility ecosystem that is designed around Malaysian drivers, Malaysian infrastructures, and Malaysian everyday needs. Localisation is not only about where our technology is hosted, but how our services are developed to make EV ownership more convenient, familiar, and relevant for Malaysians.”

“By localising our connected services and digital infrastructure, we are laying the foundation for a stronger Malaysian EV ecosystem,” added Mr Zhang.

“This allows Proton e.MAS to deliver mobility solutions that are not only technologically advanced, but also practical and relevant to the way Malaysians live and drive.”
